Chapter 8 - THE PHYCHIC

The visions receded , leaving sunmi gasping for air, her body trembling.she had just been thrown back from her chair, the impact jarring her system.her eyes momentarily clouded in milky white, cleared to reveal a torrent of memories flooding back. The accident , the visions, the forest, Emeka, Tolu, Moses, magic, everything. It was as if a dam had broken.

The world became clear again , but fury accompanied it. The anger was directed towards one person, Tolu.the betrayal cut deep , she'd felt a bond with Tolu , considered her best friend, sister, and yet she had played a key role in erasing her memories, silencing her and keeping her in the dark .

With full fury, sunmi pushed her self up, ignoring the pain and everyone else, she headed towards the field.

As she reached the she spots Tolu and Emeka , her eyes locked on Tolu ."Tolu " she shouted her voices boomed through the field.the entire field went silent and turned to at her.her gaze locked on Tolu with a furious intensity, a strange , terrifying power seemed to emanate from her.

She looked around at the little crowd she had gathered ."Excuse us".she commanded. Her voice echoing with authority.the crowed obeyed, they scattered In fear , leaving Tolu and Emeka in the field ."you " sunmi screamed " you did this to me, you erased me, you stole my memories, my life my past , for what? To protect him."she gestured sharply at Emeka , her voice contorted with disgust." You called yourself my best friend ? You're a traitor and a liar." " you manipulated me, played me like a puppet, all to shield your werewolf boyfriend you tried to kill me twice and killed my driver . " you disgust me Tolu , you've been protecting a murderer, you were willing to make look insane just so you could protect him" Sunmi said pointing at Emeka .

Emeka could no longer stand by and watch , he shouted." Enough!,enough of all this accusation " he said, his voice fueled with anger. " it wasn't her fault , sunmi it was my fault . Tolu was only trying to protect you!"

Sunmi chuckled ." You're right , it's all your fault"sunmi said releasing a telekinetic force , pushing Emeka hard to the floor.

Tolu ran towards Emeka trying to ligature him off the ground , with tears now running down her cheeks .she turned to sunmi , "Everything I did , I did to protect you and you're here throwing a tantrum!"Tolu screamed her voice laced with pain.then the whole field went quiet .

" A tantrum ?" Sunmi asked as eyes rolled back , revealing a milky white color. Her legs slowly lifted off the ground. The field began to shake, cracks of different sizes appeared on the floor .

Emeka got off his feet and carried Tolu on his shoulders. He ran off the field. Tolu kicked and screamed begging Emeka to go back for sunmi , but Emeka gave her no listening ear.

Sunmi overflowed with raw, untamed psychic energy she couldn't come control causing her to destroy the field . She released a final blast causing a big hole in the field . The energy suddenly stopped and sunmi descended slowly to the ground , unconscious.

Sunmi's eyes slowly opened. She looked around and saw she was in her bedroom. The memory of the exploding field, the raw power she'd released, the earth splitting beneath her feet, the visions, they all flooded back making her feel dizzy.

Her phone buzzed, pulling her from her lingering disorientation. It was Mirabel. Hesitantly, she answered.

"Hello Sunmi? Are you okay? After you left the library, I heard there was a mini-earthquake and we were all told to evacuate the school, but I couldn't find you anywhere," Mirabel said, her voice laced with fear and concern. "The whole school is talking about it. I even heard a rumor that there's a massive hole in the field," Mirabel continued.

"I.... I wasn't feeling too good that's why I left the library early, and my mum sent the driver to pick up so I left before the, mini-earthquake?" Sunmi replied, and they talked for a while before Sunmi ended the call.

As Tolu got home, a wave of despair washed over her as she sat alone in her room. The echoes of Sumi's furious accusations ringing in her ear. The thought of Sunmi now being supernatural and how she got her memories left Tolu puzzled.

A knock on the door broke Tolu from her thoughts. The door swung open gently. It was her younger twin brothers, Taiwo and Kehinde. "What happened?" Tolu asked, her voice laced with sadness. "We don't know who, but, someone dropped something at the doorstep," Kehinde replied. "Ok you guys can go," Tolu said as she slowly got up from her bed and walked towards the front door.

She picked up a big brown box. The box was labeled with nothing and it wasn't addressed to anyone. She opened it, revealing a large, heavy book. The cover was dark, the leather was worn and aged. Only a single symbol was embossed on the cover, a crow. She opened the book, and the pages were completely blank. No text or illustrations. Frustrated, she slammed the book and tossed it into the trash can.

She returned back to her room. And to her astonishment, the book lay on her bed. Out of fear, she rushed to frantically search the trash can. The book was no longer there. Bewildered and increasingly frightened, she returned to her room to find the book still on her bed.

She cautiously reached out to touch it, and as her finger grazed the cover, a sharp pain shot up her hand. The book seemed to have burnt her, leaving a mark on her skin. She suddenly felt this dark energy pulsating from the book. She decided to get rid of it before anyone found it or got hurt by it.

Tolu waited till she was sure everyone was asleep, as she snuck into the kitchen. She gathered what she needed: salt, a candle, and the book wrapped in cloth. She placed the book and the candle in a circle she made from the salt. Tolu took a deep breath, and with her voice low and determined, she began to chant, "Agbára iná, mo pè ó, jé kí ó jóná ìwé yìí." The book immediately burst into flames. But Tolu felt something was wrong, the flames on the book began to morph from a bright yellow flame into a menacing, vibrant purple. Tolu felt a sharp burning sensation spreading through her skin as the book burnt, almost as if she was linked to it. With no other option, she had to stop the spell and put off the flame. With a wave of her hand, the flames on the candle and the book went off, and the burning sensation ceased.
