The Omnic Crisis caught the world off guard when it first happened 30 Years ago. But the world did have an answer. They created Overwatch to fight off the Omnic threat but even still. Overwatch struggled in direct combat, so they turned to science. Dr. Gerald Robotnik was brought into Overwatch to help create the ultimate being capable of defeating the Omnic Threat. While Gerald agreed to help them, he had another motive. His granddaughter, Maria, was suffering from an illness with no known cure and he hoped that this ultimate being could help cure Maria. So, Gerald took the job. During his research, Gerald discovered the mystical Chaos Emeralds and studied their power. Through his studying of Chaos, he created the one and only Shadow the Hedgehog whom he dubbed the Ultimate Lifeform. He presented Shadow to Overwatch, and they were impressed but insisted more testing be done.
It was around this time that Shadow met Maria for the first time and the two became friends. Maria taught Shadow much about the world and it forged a bond between the two. After the Omnic Crisis ended, Overwatch's leader, Jack Morrison grew concerned with the Project and saw Shadow as a potential threat. Fueled by his paranoia, Jack ordered the project to be shut down and covered up. So, Blackwatch carried out these orders. But the day Blackwatch went to shut down the project, things went horribly wrong. In an accident Maria was killed by a Blackwatch soldier. This happened before Shadow who witnessed her death at the hands of Blackwatch, but he didn't know it was Blackwatch and thought it was just Overwatch.
After this happened, Shadow was sealed away by Overwatch and hidden away on an island. Gerald Robotnik was also arrested by Blackwatch and later executed by them. Shadow remained sealed away for years and as those years passed. The memory of Shadow faded away from Overwatch's members, but only higher ups knew and remembered the project. With Overwatch's shutdown, Shadow was forgotten, and his prison was left to rot. However, Shadow would one day be freed. It was only a matter of time before that happened. Now in the present day, Talon detected the presence of an Overwatch facility on an island and Doomfist was informed.
The first thing Doomfist did was inform Sombra to hack into the facility to access anything important. When she did, she discovered something called Project Shadow. Intrigued by this news, Doomfist himself took a detachment of Talon troops and went towards this island. On the island, Talon Dropships land around the Facility. Inside one of the chambers, the door is blown open by explosives before multiple Talon Soldiers rush into the room scanning for targets. Behind them walks in Doomfist and Sombra. Doomfist, real name Akande Ogundimu, looked around the chamber and saw a stasis pod that contained some kind of creature. He walked over to the pod and looked into the pod's glass and saw a black and red anthropomorphic creature. Little did he know, this was Shadow the Hedgehog.
"Sombra." Doomfist called out. "Open this pod."
Sombra walked over to the nearby terminal and worked her magic to open the pod. Talon Soldiers stood at the ready around the pod. The red light illuminating the chamber. Inside Shadow remained in slumber. As Sombra worked at the terminal, an alarm blared causing the Talon Soldiers to raise their weapons at the pod. Doomfist though raised a hand and silently ordered them to lower their weapons, and they did. Inside his pod, Shadow stirred. A long silence followed before Shadow opened his eyes with a glare. He then punched the glass of the pod and shattered it causing the liquid inside to splash outside of the pod. Talon Soldiers shielded their eyes from the shards of glass and backed up. Doomfist and Sombra just watched calmly. Shadow stood inside his pod as he then looked at the people before him.
He then disappeared which shocked everyone. The Talon Soldiers looked around before Shadow reappeared and kicked one Talon Soldier in the face before disappearing again. This process repeats until all the Talon Soldiers are on the floor. Doomfist doesn't seem worried more so than impressed. Sombra had pulled out her SMG and prepared to fight. Shadow knocked down the last Soldier before turning to Doomfist and Sombra and he glared at them with hatred thinking they are Overwatch.
"At ease my anthropomorphic friend." Doomfist said, attempting negotiations.
Not because he was scared, but because he wanted information.
"Never. You Overwatch agents don't deserve a second of peace." Shadow declared.
"We are not Overwatch." Doomfist corrects.
"Then who are you?" Shadow asked defensively.
"We are Talon, an organization that opposes Overwatch." Doomfist said. "We seek a new world, and Overwatch is in our way."
"Why are you here?" Shadow asked.
"We caught wind of something called Project Shadow and grew curious. Tell me, what is Project Shadow?" Doomfist asked.
Shadow didn't speak for a moment.
"I don't have time for this, Overwatch needs to pay." Shadow said as he prepared to fight.
"Then I have an offer for you." Doomfist said, attempting to broker a deal.
Shadow didn't strike or speak. Doomfist took this as his opportunity to talk.
"We will help you destroy what remains of Overwatch if you tell us what Project Shadow is." Doomfist offered.
Shadow thought about it. But he caught wind of a detail in the offer.
"What do you mean by 'what remains of Overwatch' are they gone?" Shadow asked.
"More like disbanded. But their Agents live." Sombra answered.
"With our help, you can track them all down and terminate them." Doomfist offered once more.
Shadow thought about it a little more. He wants to make Overwatch pay for what they've done. He wants to avenge Maria. Maybe he could use a little help. The world is a big place after all, and he doesn't have the resources to track all Overwatch agents down.
"Fine." Shadow said, reluctantly. "I'll let you help."
"Good. Now, what is Project Shadow?" Doomfist asked.
"I'm Project Shadow." Shadow reveals. "I was created to be the Ultimate lifeform, a weapon against the Omnics during the Crisis."
"Your Project Shadow hm?" Doomfist asked. "What's your name?"
"Shadow the Hedgehog." Shadow answered.
"Well, Shadow, I believe it's time we leave." Doomfist said.
Doomfist then turned and walked out of the chamber with Sombra following him. Shadow stayed put for a second before he followed them.
