Chloe clearly heard that whenever Lucas spoke to Lily, his voice would drop, infinitely gentle.
It made her heart ache.
Her hand clutched tightly onto Matthew's shirt sleeve, not caring even if she wrinkled it.
"Chloe, are you okay?" Lily asked with concern, seeing that Chloe hadn't reacted.
Chloe didn't want to raise her head because it would let Lily see her in her disheveled state, and... her face full of tears.
She didn't want to embarrass herself.
But...
She couldn't just keep hiding like this, making Matthew's shirt wrinkled and wet. He must be very angry.
Chloe felt utterly pitiable.
Offending Matthew on one side, and on the other, facing the hypocritical Lily and Lucas.
Every time she saw the two of them together, it reminded Chloe.
That night, she was upstairs, in the dark, with someone she didn't even know.
And downstairs, it was the entanglement between Lucas and Lily.
