The elevator was silent as Romeo processed what his sister just told him.
He was a father.
His mate had left their pack, pregnant, and had to go through the difficulty of bearing his child alone.
"What kind of mate and father am I?" Romeo said, his voice shaking.
"Oh, Romeo," Rae said as she hugged her brother. "It isn't your fault. Helena kept it a secret from you. She knew before the Alpha Rite, she'd planned to stay before she found out that the attackers were after her."
"I should have been there for them, Rae," Romeo said as he leaned against the wall of the elevator.
"What's important is you're here now," Rae said as she finally let go.
"Was it hard for her?" Romeo asked. "What was it like?"
"It was honestly a mostly easy pregnancy," Rae explained. "It only became complicated when she gave birth. He's a strong boy."
"A boy," Romeo said as he processed everything Rae would give him. "What did she name him?"
Rae gave him a smile, making Romeo raise an eyebrow.
