Puff was awake.
I was going to leave the following day. I had no other reason to stay. But that night, Pei knocked on my door and let herself in without waiting for approval from me.
She came in with a gloomy expression and I knew instantly that she wanted to talk about something serious, something that would extend my stay on the island longer than I wanted. I had done what I wanted to do, I had lost all interest in killing Kashar, I just wanted to leave in peace.
Would she not just let me do that? Would she be able to stop me from leaving? Would I be heartless enough to ignore her pleas after listening to what she has to say?
I did not want to hear it.
That was the thought that crossed my mind when I saw her come through the door.
"What is going on? What is wrong?" I asked, I was also worried about the sad expression she had on her face and I asked the question without actively thinking it through.
