Chapter 40 - No More Games

Julian Roth had crossed the line.

Attacking Moris's business was one thing. Coming after Isabel? That was war.

Moris wasn't about to sit back and wait for Julian's next move. He was going to end this.

The Investigation Begins

Leo was already at work, hacking into traffic cameras and tracking the SUV that had tried to run Isabel down.

"Got it," he said, fingers flying across the keyboard. "The car was ditched two miles from the scene. No prints, no plates—completely untraceable."

Vincent Graves, Moris's lawyer, exhaled sharply. "Classic move. Julian's covering his tracks."

Moris clenched his jaw. "Then we find another way to track him."

Sarah leaned against the desk, arms crossed. "Julian doesn't act alone. Someone carried out that attack for him. We find that person, we find Julian."

Leo smirked. "Good thing I already did."

He turned the laptop screen toward them. A security camera screenshot.

A man stepping out of the SUV. Face partially obscured, but still recognizable.

Sarah sucked in a breath. "I know him."

"Who is he?" Moris demanded.

She exhaled. "His name is Damian Voss. Ex-military. Julian's personal enforcer."

Moris's eyes darkened. "Then we pay him a visit."

The Confrontation

Damian Voss was dangerous, but Moris wasn't afraid of dangerous men.

Tracking him down wasn't hard. Sarah knew his habits, his safe houses. By the next night, Moris and his team stood outside a run-down warehouse on the city's outskirts.

"Last chance to do this the legal way," Vincent murmured.

Moris didn't answer. He pushed open the warehouse door.

Inside, Damian was waiting. He wasn't surprised.

"You work fast, Sinclair," Damian said, leaning against a crate.

"You tried to kill Isabel," Moris said, voice cold. "Big mistake."

Damian chuckled. "You think I'm scared of you?"

Moris stepped closer, unflinching. "No. But you should be scared of what happens next."

Leo held up a phone. "See, we pulled your bank records. A very large payment came in yesterday. Right after the attack on Isabel. Guess where it came from?"

Damian's smirk faltered.

Moris pressed on. "Julian set you up, Damian. He paid you just enough to take the fall. When this all goes down, do you think he's coming to save you?"

Silence.

Damian's jaw clenched.

Then, finally—he cracked.

"He's in hiding," Damian admitted. "Julian knows you're coming for him. He's planning something big."

"What?"

Damian hesitated. Then—"Something about fire."

Moris and Sarah exchanged looks.

"What the hell does that mean?"

Before Damian could answer—

BOOM.

The warehouse exploded.

The Flames of Revenge

The blast sent Moris flying backward. Heat. Smoke. Fire.

Sirens wailed in the distance. The warehouse was already collapsing.

Leo coughed, pulling himself up. "That wasn't an accident!"

Sarah yanked Moris to his feet. "Julian knew we were coming!"

Flames roared around them.

They had seconds to escape.

Moris grabbed Damian—half-conscious—and threw him over his shoulder. "Move!"

They crashed through a side door just as the roof caved in behind them.

Coughing, gasping for air, they stumbled into the street.

Police cars screeched to a halt. Firefighters rushed in.

Moris barely noticed.

Because standing across the street, watching everything burn—

—was Julian Roth.

And as their eyes met, Julian smiled.

Before disappearing into the night.
