Chapter 26 - The Mastermind in the Shadows

Moris clenched his fists as he stared at Vincent's lifeless body. Another loose end, conveniently silenced.

Someone out there was playing a bigger game. Someone powerful.

Isabel pressed a shaking hand to her lips. "This is getting out of control. First, Sarah, now this? How deep does this go?"

Moris exhaled sharply. "We're done waiting for answers. It's time to find out who's pulling the strings."

He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. The call connected after two rings.

A smooth, calculated voice answered. "Mr. Sinclair. I was expecting your call."

Moris' grip on the phone tightened. "Then you know why I'm calling."

A small chuckle. "I assume it has something to do with the man dying at your doorstep."

Isabel's eyes widened. Whoever this was, they already knew.

Moris kept his tone cold. "Who are you?"

"You've already met some of my work," the voice replied. "Sarah thought she was playing the game, but she's nothing more than a pawn."

Moris felt a chill crawl up his spine. A bigger threat. One that had been lurking in the shadows all along.

"Why?" he demanded.

The voice hummed. "Because power isn't given. It's taken."

Then the line went dead.

Moris lowered the phone, his mind racing. This wasn't just about Sarah anymore. This was a war.

And someone had just declared it.

Sarah's Realization

Sarah paced in her lavish penthouse, her nerves unraveling. She had ordered Isabel's assassination. It should have been simple. It should have been done.

Yet, not only was Isabel alive, but now her hired man—Vincent—was dead.

Then there was the message.

A single, anonymous text that had appeared on her phone an hour ago.

"You're out of your depth."

Her stomach twisted. She had always thought she was the one pulling the strings. But now, she wasn't so sure.

A knock at her door made her jump.

She hesitated before opening it.

A man in a crisp black suit stood there, his expression unreadable.

"Ms. Carter," he said smoothly. "We need to talk."

Sarah swallowed. Who was this? And why did it feel like her fate had just been sealed?

The Unmasking Begins

Back at Moris' estate, Isabel sat with Duke curled up beside her. The dog had sensed the danger before they had, and she was beginning to trust his instincts more than her own.

Moris poured himself a drink. "Whoever this is, they know everything about us."

Isabel frowned. "What if we turn the game on them?"

Moris looked at her, intrigued. "Go on."

She leaned forward. "They operate from the shadows, right? They don't want to be seen. But if we force them into the light…"

Moris nodded slowly. "We make them reveal themselves."

He smirked, a dangerous glint in his eyes.

"They think they're hunting us?" He downed his drink.

"Let's show them what it feels like to be the prey."
