"You mean Seraphina who just left here?" Vealith asked again for the umpteenth time.
"We're running out of options, Vealith," I said, my voice low.
"But we can't involve her, you said it yourself. If she finds out the real situation, if she knows even a fraction of what you've been hiding... it'll cause huge problems." He paused, running his hands through his hair in frustration. "I'm tired of all this, Zeke. You're hiding things from me. Do you even remember the first time you came to me for help?"
He paused again. The memory surfaced sharply — the day I had gone to him, desperate, feeding him only a half-baked story... just like I always did.
"If you're willing to tell me everything, then fine — I don't mind helping. But fighting for something I have absolutely no idea about?" He shook his head. "I'm out."
