Chapter: 40

Zeke's POV:
"Guards," I heard Alberto call out, his voice laced with panic. At this point, I couldn't help but marvel at what a fool he was. Did he really believe that summoning a few warriors would make a difference?
Within seconds, a couple of guards stormed into the chamber, clad in their full battle armor. Their rigid postures suggested obedience, but their shifting eyes and subtle hesitations betrayed them.
"I want the best of the warriors among you to take him down," Alberto commanded, his voice trembling slightly, though he tried to mask it with authority.
Silence.
Instead of immediate compliance, the guards exchanged wary glances. Their fear was evident—the kind of fear that seeped into one's bones and made every instinct scream run. One by one, they unconsciously stepped back, as if distance alone could shield them from the inevitable.
