Crunch!
The room was filled with the warmth and light of fire. Elara kept staring at the fire burning before her eyes in the fire escape. Despite there being several sofas and chairs in the room, she stood by and watched as the wood slowly burned and turned into coal.
The sound of wood cracking, the fire flickering, and deep, heavy breaths echoed in the room.
For a moment, her gaze flickered to the poker. She clasped her grip around the wooden handle of the poker and poked it in the burning woods several times, causing it to break apart.
She pulled the burning red-hot poker out of the fireplace and turned to the side and pushed it down.
"Arghh!"
Lying on the hearth of the fire escape was a woman; her hands and feet were tied. She cried in pain as the red-hot steel pierced through her clothes and burned her skin.
Hiss!
The sickening sound of flesh burning mixed with her screams drowned the sound of the fire.
