Chapter 32 - The Svandiscot Secret

"Si Elle De Montfort is a celestial demon" Abel said plainly as if Ed was foolish to not have figured that out.

"He is?" Ed blinked and this made Abel no longer work himself up about what he had said earlier.

It wasn't looking as if Ed wasn't dumb like he had thought.

"Si Elle's mother was said to have captured the attention of a fallen angel before he disappeared from the face of earth. Children born of fallen angel fathers are called celestial demons because they have celestial origins and thus have powers greater than that of ordinary demons"

" Does that mean that he can defeat even the most powerful demons combined together as a force against him? Ed asked.

"Why are you asking? Do you want to go against him?"

" I didn't put it that way"

"You didn't put it anyway either. To survive here also Ed, you need to be cautious of what you say and words you let out of your mouth. People are always watching. This is a battleground. Survival is paramount and even deaths are not questioned nor recorded. If someone kills you, that'd be your end. Nothing more, nothing else"

" And If I kill them instead? Would anything be done to me?"

Abel paused speaking for a while as he glared at Ed Warren. This wasn't his usual self. The boy he had seen few days ago and even spent hours with already doesn't seem like one to have such courage. Oh well,he was a coward,or even lesser than one. He had no willpower and was only concerned with food, what would he know about having ambitions like contained in what he had just said?

"Didn't you hear what I said? What would be done to me if I kill Si Elle? As it appears, that is the only plausible way I can get Lorraine back through. Would I be fed to demons? " Ed added, not hesitating for even a second as the words came out of his lips.

Abel used the palm of his hand to cover his mouth and stared at the door fearfully, checking if someone has overheard what Ed had said.

"Everything have ears here Ed!" Abel shouted at him. "The papers you see, the walls, clothes, furniture, cutleries. Literally anything can be used by others to monitor others. Si Elle is the most powerful here. He controls this legion and everyone worships him. Speaking against him will earn you a death warrant from his fans who aspire to be as powerful as he is. Don't you get it?"

"Get what? There's nothing to get. You mentioned that there won't be any repercussions if anyone were to kill another here. Why would there be laws if I were to kill him?"

"Ohh Ed. Why are you so dumb? Si Elle is the only celestial demon left. Didn't I tell you that they were the most powerful in the hierarchy? He is second only to Lucifer himself in power. Killing him isn't a rebellion, it would mean suicide"

"You are nothing Ed. You're just a lowlife when compared to Si Elle. I'm taking you under my wings because you seem like a good guy with mad potential given our shared monastery experiences. Please don't make me regret wanting to help you" Abel's groan cut through the silence again.

Ed listened and felt a twitch in Abel's voice. At first he wanted to confront it but then let it be. But the moment he heard the next words that came out of Abel's lips made him question his intentions.

"You will do all I say. Never you take decisions on your own without consulting me first. Remember that you are a novice here while I am already a pro"

Ed's eyes narrowed. He were to do as he would be told? For what end means? To have food given to him by this pro who was taking him under his wings?

He thought to himself. If he were to relax and give Abel the power to feed him, then he was inadvertently giving him the power to starve him as well.

"What about father Gaufridi?" Ed glanced at Abel suspiciously, knowing fully well that he had shifted the topic while also trying to conceal his tongue from spilling any of his thoughts.

He already appeared like a manipulator to him but he couldn't stay away. He needed him, atleast for he time being. So while he would behave submissive to his orders for now. A time would come when he wouldn't have to anymore.

"Gaufridi is not a father Ed. He is a demon now. A demon Lord who controls hundreds of demons and have them do his willing however he wants it"

Ed was lost for words as the revelation still was like a bomb for him to assimilate.

" How do you even know all these Abel? You look as if you're my age. Why do you seem to know too much about him and the monastery?"

Ed cleaned the bead of sweat that tricked down his forehead as he awaited Abel's answer.

He was proud of himself for finally asking the right questions. Even if he were to chase him away now due to the sort of question he had asked, he wouldn't mind. Afterall his stomach was half full already. Thanks to his savior whom he was discovering depths about.

"I went to the Franciscan Monastery too Ed. I was like you as well. I believed those accusations against Gaufridi were just baseless but not until I discovered they were not"

" And how did you find that out? Did you stalk him or did you find out one day when he couldn't tell he was being watched?"

"I encountered him Ed. I was expelled because Gaufridi punished me for what I didn't commit. After he was accused of being a demon, he framed me and has me expelled but instead of going home full of embarrassment of what to say to my parents happened, I met a man who brought me here and here I am"

Here he was, as if that was something for him to be proud of.

"Why didn't you want your parents to know you were expelled and framed? Don't they care about you too?"

Ed couldn't resist the question being used to families and parents not caring for their children enough.

"No. My parents are Charles and Elizabeth of the Svandiscot Islands. They know that I am here even"

A lump formed at Ed's throat. No wonder he saw him as one of his disciples.

The man and woman he had just mentioned were extremely famous and powerful. That was added to their wealth.

The boys at the monastery never seemed to stop talking about them when he had been at the Monastery. Now he could tell why.

"Buckle yourself up. Read through this" A smaller book to the one in Abel's hands landed on the bed beside Ed.

"How about the book you're holding?" Ed questioned while going through the book he just received and comparing it to the voluminous one Ed held.

"People who don't have families to provide for them often manage with whatever they are able to receive, Ed Warren. And they are always grateful for them"

" Ohh, I'm sorry. Thank you so much Abel" Ed corrected himself but his mimd was still not settled about what information Abel could have been wanting to hide from him.

"The first order quest begins in a few hours Ed. Ready yourself"
