Kael barely had time to register the Prophet's words. "Capture him, if you will."
A simple command, and the villagers had followed his order without hesitation. He had a hold on these people that Kael could not understand.
The first villager reached him within a few steps, carrying a shovel.
Kael's instincts took over, and he sidestepped just before the attack.
The swing narrowly missed his torso, and the villager was thrown off balance when their attack did not hit.
Kael retaliated with a swift kick into the man's gut, knocking him to the ground.
I can't fight these people. They've been steered wrong. They do not understand.
But no matter. The rest of the villagers reached him in a massive wave, weapons raised. Kael spotted some children within the group, their eyes wide with fury.
They carried spears fashioned from sharpened reeds, clubs carved from thick roots, even jagged stones gripped tightly in trembling hands.
