Gina's eye's, soft yet unwavering, held Mikey in place, as though the weight of her gaze alone could draw him near.
Mikey's breath caught. His heartbeat pulsed through his fingertips, each thud echoing like a distant drum in his ears.
Her presence—divine, feminine, cloaked in mystery—was overwhelming. For a second, his mind went blank. Then, he made his decision.
'Okay... here we go.'
He stepped forward.
One foot. Then another. The sound of his footsteps was absorbed by the plush carpet beneath.
When he reached the edge of the bed, his knees pressed gently into the mattress. The fabric sank slightly under his weight as he crawled forward, deliberate and slow.
He moved as though the moment might shatter if he rushed it, as though she might vanish into starlight.
