Chapter 7 - Echoes of the Future

Lightning cracked across the sky, casting eerie shadows over the battlefield. Kaiya's pulse raced. Zane stood confidently between two timelines, a twisted grin on his face and the Paradox Chronicle glowing like a beating heart in his hands.

"You're not supposed to be here, Zane!" Kaiya shouted over the wind.

Zane raised a brow. "Neither are you, Monroe. But that's the fun part of playing with time, isn't it?" He turned to Prince Adrien. "And you… shouldn't even exist right now."

Adrien stepped forward, eyes narrowed. "You've brought a curse upon this land. I don't know who you are or where you came from—but the moment you arrived, time began to unravel."

Kaiya glanced around—the sky was flickering between dusk and dawn, the clouds looping, reversing, and reshaping. People on the battlefield moved like echoes—some fighting forward, others replaying battles in reverse.

"This timeline is collapsing," Liam muttered. "Zane's messing with the core of it."

Zane flipped the book open and smirked. "Oh, I'm not messing with it. I'm rewriting it." He turned a page and recited a line in an ancient tongue.

Suddenly, a pulse exploded from the Chronicle, and everything froze. The soldiers. The wind. Even time itself.

All except the four of them.

"You're insane!" Kaiya screamed, stepping forward. "You could destroy all of history!"

"Exactly," Zane whispered, stepping back into a rift of golden energy opening behind him. "And that's why I'm rewriting it. My version? Has no war. No death. And no more heartbreak."

He vanished.

Time snapped back into motion, and chaos erupted once more.

Prince Adrien's voice was grave. "He has the Chronicle. If he changes the past… the future will become a prison we can never escape."

Kaiya looked at Liam, fear and determination clashing in her eyes. "Then we find him. And we take it back."

"Before he erases us all," Liam added.

A burning sigil suddenly appeared beneath their feet. A portal.

Adrien raised his sword. "Are you ready to hunt through time?"

Kaiya nodded. "Let's rewrite fate."

They jumped—

—and time cracked open once again.

Next stop: 2075.

A world where nothing is as it should be.
