Of course, it was Alec.
My chest tensed up for a second—not because I was scared, but because I'd honestly forgotten about him. Which… made me feel kind of bad. I hadn't seen him since that day. The one where he suddenly got called away and left without saying anything. That same day I ended up stuck on Kael's floor and, well… everything spiraled from there.
A lot had happened.
Alec walked over, casual like always, holding two bags of chips he had just pulled from the vending machine.
He dragged a chair next to mine and plopped into it with a soft thud.
"Where have you been?" he asked, eyeing me in that straightforward way he always did.
I cleared my throat, trying to sit a little straighter. "Sorting some stuff out," I said vaguely, skipping the part where I almost got sandwiched by two trailers, how I'd fallen into the water, got chased by dogs, kissed into oblivion, and then carried through the hallway like a bag of rice. No need to bring all that up right now.
