Chapter 50: Supernatural Powers and the Use of Emotional Energy
Victor made a decision that deviated from conventional trainer practices.
After capturing seven Pokémon with Poké Balls, the system he relied on automatically recognized these Pokémon as part of his team. As a result, the system's shop immediately listed candies tailored for each of them, including Feebas, Dratini, Ralts, and others—a total of seven varieties.
Upon returning to the island, Victor released the six baby Pokémon. Interestingly, as soon as they were freed, the candies specifically designed for them disappeared from the system shop.
Victor had initially planned to release Feebas after having a conversation with her. However, when Feebas expressed her determination to become stronger, Victor saw an opportunity.
By keeping Feebas in his care temporarily, he could utilize the system's candies to enhance her overall quality during their basic training sessions. This arrangement would last until Latios and Latias returned.
---
During this time, Victor decided to focus on training Incineroar and Carbink.
For Carbink, Victor sought the guidance of Psychic-type Pokémon like Gardevoir, Alakazam, or even the Hatterene clan, who excelled in manipulating psychic powers.
Victor's goal was for Carbink to learn meditation techniques and other psychic training methods.
As a manifestation of mental energy, psychic allowed Pokémon to move, control, or manipulate objects with their thoughts. This universal trait meant that most Pokémon had some degree of psychic potential, even if they weren't Psychic-types.
This potential was often expressed through learnable moves. For instance, the move Agility was widely accessible to many Pokémon. Its principle lay in using mental power to stimulate body cells, resulting in a significant speed boost.
Additionally, some Pokémon without Psychic typing displayed psychic abilities rivaling those of dedicated Psychic-types.
Examples included Psyduck and its evolutionary line, known for latent psychic power, and the Ninetales clan, which exhibited supernatural talents in their mastery of illusions and curses.
---
Victor's immediate focus was clear:
For Feebas, he would combine system candies and basic training to ensure her readiness for evolution.
For Carbink, he would arrange specialized psychic training to sharpen her psychic abilities.
For Incineroar, he planned intense physical training to refine its strength and combat techniques.
With these plans in motion, Victor was determined to maximize the potential of his team before Latios and Latias returned.
Psyduck and its evolved form, Golduck, are both Water-type Pokémon. Despite Psyduck being classified as a "Slowpoke" along with other slow Pokémon like Slowpoke, Swampert, and Magikarp, it hides incredible mental power. Psyduck occasionally generates telekinesis, but most of the time, it cannot control this power. A large amount of psychic energy builds up in its head, causing constant headaches. When the pain becomes unbearable, Psyduck can unleash psychic abilities more powerful than many other psychic Pokémon.
As seen in the anime with Misty's Psyduck, its amazing psychic powers are only triggered when external forces impact its head, causing an explosive release of psychic energy.
After Psyduck evolves into Golduck, it gains better control over its psychic abilities, despite not gaining Psychic typing. Golduck's skill pool also includes many psychic-type moves, which enhances its psychic potential.
Another Pokémon of note is Ninetales, a pure Fire-type Pokémon. With a lifespan of up to a thousand years, Ninetales's psychic abilities become more powerful as it ages. It is known for using its psychic powers to create illusions, with some legends even stating that a thousand-year-old Ninetales can transform into a human within an illusion.
Victor imagined that if Carbink developed her psychic abilities, she could float in the air, compensating for her slow movements and preparing for future battles in the sky and on the seas.
As for Incineroar, Victor intended to develop its flame abilities. The strength of its flames is linked to the emotional energy fueling them. Stronger emotions, such as the desire to win, anger, joy, or a sense of connection, can intensify the fire's heat and power. Incineroar had already made some use of emotional energy through its characteristic, Intimidation, which lowered the opponent's will to fight and attack power by releasing emotional energy.
Victor knew that Hatterene, a Pokémon capable of sensing and manipulating emotions, would be an ideal teacher for Incineroar. Hatterene often creates illusions to influence the emotions of those it targets, making it a great fit for helping Incineroar control its emotional energy. Although Hatterene could be difficult to approach, Victor believed that his bond with Latios, Latias, and his past assistance to Feebas would earn him the Pokémon's cooperation.
In the following days, Feebas would undergo basic training before evolving. Victor prepared Carbink and Incineroar for their respective training, and bought a small fish tank from the system mall to conveniently carry Feebas. After explaining the training plans to Carbink and Incineroar , Victor headed to the Lost Light Forest, where Hatterene and the Gardevoir clan resided.
---
Though called the Lost Light Forest, it was a small forest on an island outside the Secret Realm where Hatterene and the Gardevoir clan lived. The actual Lost Light Forest, located within the secret realm controlled by Latios and Latias, was full of bizarre fluorescent lights and had a magical ambiance.
Upon entering the Lost Light Forest, Victor saw several Ralts and Kirlia playing freely. Watching over them was a Pokémon with a calm yet chivalrous presence—Gallade, the evolved form of Kirlia.
Pokémon: Gallade
Attributes: [Psychic + Fighting]
Gender: [♂]
Level: [45]
Moves: [Cleave, Slash, Psychic Blade, Leaf Blade, scared Sword…]
Unlike Gardevoir, Gallade possesses both Psychic and Fighting attributes, excelling in close combat. Gallade's upper body is green, and its lower half is white. Its form is slim but muscular, with thick hips and strong legs. Gallade has red protrusions on its chest and back and its arms are equipped with retractable blades at the elbows. Its head resembles a gladiator's helmet, featuring a white face and a light cyan crown.
Gallade primarily fights with elbow knives and is part of a family of sword-fighting Pokémon.
Because Victor carried Feebas in a fish tank and bore the marks of Latios and Latias, Gallade did not attack. After Victor explained his purpose, Gallade nodded and contacted Gardevoir through its psychic powers to relay the request.
