Chapter 14 - Chapter XIII

In the examination room, all you can do is watch the clock and hear going, "tick tock tick tock." Nobody spoke up because nobody dared to make a move or say anything. Because they only had a limited amount of time to complete the exam, almost everyone was in a state of panic. They were attempting to respond to the questions as quickly as they could to make up for the rapidly decreasing number of people in the room who were caught cheating.

Ibiki: Now that we've weeded out most of the hopeless cases, 15 minutes to go. Almost time for the main events.

The snoring of a nearby participant frequently disrupted Ibiki's lectures. Ibiki did a glance around, and he noticed that Goku was fast asleep. Ibiki would immediately pull out a kunai and throw it toward Goku as he was about to attack. Everyone would then be shocked and horrified to witness Goku take a blow to the chest from the kunai. Both Ino and Hinata experience some stress as a result of seeing a friend getting stabbed and possibly getting killed.

Goku's body would explode in smoke as he reappeared next to Ibiki, tossing him his kunai back to him.

Goku: You have to be more careful where you place your kunai. Someone might get hurt one day if they are not paying attention. Is the exam over? It's getting boring in here.

Goku walks back to his seat as he is yawning. As Goku took his sit, Ibiki began to speak.

Ibiki: All right, listen up. Here's the 10th and final question. But before I give you the question, there are some more rules that you need to be aware of. These rules are unique to question 10. Listen carefully and try not to let them frighten you.

Elsewhere in the village.

Kakashi: I almost miss them.

Asuma: Don't worry. Chances are they'll be back again sooner than you think.

Kakashi: Why is that?

Asuma: I heard that their first examiner this year is Ibiki.

Kakashi: So already, their chances of a passing look iffy. Great sticking them with that sadist right off the bat.

Kurenai: What sadist?

Kakashi: He's what you might call a specialist.

Kurenai: Oh yeah, in what?

Asuma: He works with people's brains rather than their bodies to accomplish his goals. It's what made him famous in the first place. The person serving as chief of the Anbu Torture and Interrogation Corps for the Hidden Leaf Village is supposed to be well-known to everyone. Ibiki Morino.

Examination Room.

Ibiki: Okay, that settles it. The first and most important rule is. It is entirely up to you whether or not you want to be given the last question. It is all up to you.

Tamari: Wow. So what's the catch? Let's say we decide we don't want to do it. What happens, then?

Ibiki: If you opt not to answer the 10th question, you will receive a score of zero regardless of how you responded to the previous nine questions. To put it another way, you have been unsuccessful, and as a consequence, so have your teammates.

Everyone started to panic and whispered among themselves. But everyone's heart fell to the ground when Ibiki advised them if they decided to take the 10th question and failed, they would never have a chance to take another to become Chunin, and they'll remain a Genin for the rest of their lives.

Naruto: I will not be intimidated, and I will become Hokage even if I fail and remains a genin forever.

Naruto's outburst brings the remaining teams back in check, and everyone decides that they will stick around for the last question. Ibiki walks right on by everyone else when he realizes that nobody else is going to leave.

He congratulates everyone for passing the first stage of the Chunin exams. Argument from some of the ninjas Ibiki argues that the first nine questions were designed to test the individuals' ability to gather knowledge and that the tenth question was designed to test the individuals' determination and bravery. Still, before he could finish, the window that led into the classroom blew out, and it revealed a woman who was wearing a fishnet top and a trench coat. The mysterious woman pinned a banner to the room's wall using a kunai. The banner read, "Second Exam Proctor, Anko Mitarashi, sexiest Kunoichi of Konoha."

Anko: Heads up, boys and girls. This is no time to be celebrating. I'll be your next proctor—Ready for the second test. Good! Then let's go, follow me!

Ibiki: You're early again, Anko.

Goku: Wow, she's pretty.

Anko: Ibiki, you let so many people pass? The difficulty of your test must have been diminishing. You're growing too soft, Ibiki.

Ibiki: This year's pool of potential candidates may be powerful.

Anko: They don't give off that impression at all. Believe me when I say that more than half of them will be terminated or dead before I'm finished with them. This is going to be a really enjoyable experience. All right, you maggots have had it easy up until this point, but things are going to change as soon as the sun comes out in the morning. I'll let your squad leaders know where you're supposed to meet up with me. Dismissed.

Ibiki smiles to himself as he picks up Naruto's and Goku's exam papers after the students have left the room. He has just realized that he has just passed a student who did not answer a single question on the exam while the other student got every question correct. The following day, all of the candidates meet in the area just outside the Forest of Death.

The following day everyone met in front of one of the gates to the Forest of Death.

Anko: Ok, you maggots, welcome to where your next exam will begin, The Forest Of Death. This will be your home for the next five days while you take the second part of the exams. And before I forget, I need you all to sign a waiver; She said while passing out the papers.

Sakura: What is the waiver for?

An evil sneer appeared to form on Anko's face at that moment.

Anko: In the event that you pass away, Konoha will not be held liable for your passing.

The color of Sakura's face changed to a very pale white.

Goku: Hey, Naruto, this is going to be an exciting as well as a difficult challenge.

Goku told Naruto, who smiled and nodded at him as he took in the information. Goku's natural instincts for combat kicked into high gear when the hand he wasn't using to grasp the waver suddenly sprang into action and blocked an incoming projectile. Goku performed an inspection of the weapon, which revealed itself to be a kunai. Goku turned his attention to the location where the weapon had been hurled and was taken aback to realize that Anko was the one who had thrown it.

Goku: Hey, why did you throw this at me?

Goku asked while his eyes narrowed at the proctor.

Anko: Because brat, this second part is no joke, and Genin, like you, is always the first to die,

Anko said while taking back the weapon. In all honesty, Anko was surprised the kid caught the kunai, but she didn't let it show. Anko turned her attention back to the others.

Anko: The rules are to get one of the other team's scrolls and return to the tower about a mile from this location.

Anko said and had other Chunnin lead separate teams to other parts of the forest. The Chunnin gave Goku and team seven a scroll and unlocked the gate.

Anko: The second part of the Chunnin Exams has begun.

Anko announced that Chunnin's exams had begun. Team Seven shot off into the Forest Of Death, and Goku stayed behind.

Anko: What are you doing? Shouldn't you be with your team?

Goku: I am the team. It's just me, myself, and I.

Goku stretches his body as he gets ready to enter the forest. Goku would walk for a while, not seeing anyone close by. An hour into the exam, and yet no one has come to challenge him for his scroll.

While Goku jumped on top of a tree and continued to leap from one tree branch to the next, he suddenly saw the three ninjas from the Sand about to face another team.

Goku decided to stay and keep an eye on the fight when he also realized Kurenai's team 8 was watching, too, behind the bushes.

Shigure: Do you believe the nevers of these Sand Village ninjas coming to challenge us forthright? Too bad, kids you should pick your opponents better. Now you're all going to die.

Gaara: That's enough out of you. Let's make this quick. I don't want to waste time on cheap ninjas from the Hidden Rain Village.

Goku: I wonder what kind of techniques they are going to use. This is out to be fun to keep an eye on.

Kankuro: Why wouldn't you go after them once you've followed them around and gathered information about them? It is not necessary to engage in a fight if both parties possess the same kind of scroll. Fights that aren't necessary are.

Gaara: It doesn't matter. They look at me the wrong way. So they are going to die.

Kankuro: Danm it, Gaara, that's why I didn't want to be stuck in a forest with this guy.

Shigure: Well, let's do it. Quickly! Die, kid! Ninja Art: Senbon Rainstorm! Hidden Senbons! There is no such thing as a weak point in this Jutsu; it works from top to bottom, right to left. In addition, all of the Senbons are under my Chakra's control, and they are attacking the target they were designed for! Way too easy.

The Ninja of the Rain would take the umbrellas he carried on his back, grab them, and then toss them into the air. After a while, the umbrellas would begin to spin rapidly in a circular motion, shooting Senbon needles.

Gaara: Is that all?

Shigure: I-It can't be?! Not even one? No wounds? Ridiculous!

Gaara: A Senbon Rainstorm, huh? I have an idea. I'll make it rain blood. Sand Coffin!

Gaara would do a quick hand movement, calling out his jutsu. Sand would quickly wrap itself and cover Shigure's body.

Shigure: I can't move! Let me go!

Gaara: I can cover your loud mouth

and kill you. But that's too pitiful and boring. Sand Burial!

Gaara: There's no pain. I knocked him even harder than was necessary. The bloody tears of a corpse merge with vast sinking sand and provide more power

to the demon of war.

The other two ninjas, Baiu and Midare, would offer their scrolling through to Gaara after watching their teammate die in front of them. But Gaara would show no mercy in killing them in the same way as Shigure.

Kankuro: Luckily for us, it is a Heaven scroll. Okay! Let's go to the tower.

Gaara: Just shut up. It's still not enough for me! I can sense you come out, or I'll kill you.

Gaara would look over this right at some bushes, waiting for someone to come out. Are you scared, coward?

Kiba: U-Uh oh! Did he notice us?!

Goku jumped down from the tree and walked by Team 8, smiling with his hand over his head.

Goku: I didn't know that you had noticed me. I must have gotten a little bit excited over your fight. Did you really have to kill them? You had the fight all ready won.

Tamari "to herself": What's wrong with him? Is he not scared of Gaara after what he just did?

Gaara: You're perfect; with your blood, I can prove to everyone that I exist. I will kill you, too, right here and now.

Goku: No, thank you. I have a much better idea. How about you wait for the next round of the chunin exams? When we can fight in front of everybody. Then you can prove your existence. Doesn't that sound much better than fighting me when there's no one watching?

Gaara: Fine, I'll be waiting for you at the finals. Let's go, Tamari and Kankuro.

Kankuro: He just calmed down Gaara.

Gaara and his team would start and make their way to the tower. Goku would signal to team 8 that it is okay to come out.

Goku: You guys can come out now. It's safe.

Hinata: Are you okay, Goku-Kun?

Goku: Hi, Hinata, and yes, I'm okay; how about you guys?

Shino: We are okay too.

Kiba: Speak for yourself; Akamaru is still pretty shaken by what we just witnessed.

Goku: Well, I'm glad none of you got hurt. I'll be seeing you guys. I'm still looking for a scroll.

Goku would take off in search of the scroll he needs. Goku would move at an incredible speed from one tree to another until he stopped and he heard screams coming from a direction not too far away from him. Goku started heading that way. When he arrived, he saw a girl chased by a giant bear.

Goku sees the girl trip and falls down to the ground. Goku quickly moves toward the bear. He delivers an axe kick to the head and grabs two kunai throwing them and stabbing them in the eyes, killing the bear.

Goku: Are you okay?

?: My glasses.

Goku sees her glasses and picks them up, and puts them on her. As soon as she sees Goku, she blushes a bit.

Goku: Hi, are you okay?

?: Yes, thank you.

Goku: So, what's your name?

?: My name is Karin Uzumaki.

Goku: Hi Karin, my name is Son Goku. Nice to meet you. So tell me, what are you doing yourself?

Karin: The bear proved to be my team's undoing and ultimately led to their death. I am the last one that is still standing at this point. I made an effort to make my way back to the starting gates, but the bear followed me here and then attacked me. But thanks to you, Goku, I can finally get around safely.

Karin had just started walking back to the gates when all of a sudden, she tripped and fell to the ground, grasping her left ankle while she was on her knee. Goku would quickly approach her and request that she take a seat. Goku would remove her shoe one step at a time and set her ankle on his lap while he did so. A flash of green chakra would appear on Goku's palms when he quickly made a sign. The next thing we see is Goku placing his hand on Karin's ankle.

Karin: What are you doing?

Goku: It's okay. I'm using my ninjutsu to help you recover faster. Luckily you just have a minor ankle sprain.

After helping Karin to her feet and wrapping her ankle, Goku did something that caught her completely off guard. This was after he had already helped her get back on her feet. Goku would grab her in his strong arms, hoist her over his shoulders, and carry her like a bride.

Goku began running and jumped from one tree to another, making Karin a bit nervous and making her blush a bit too.

Karin: Goku, could you kindly explain to me where we are going and why?

Goku: I'm going to take you to one of the entrance gates. It is quite a distance away from here, and the idea of you walking there alone does not sit well with me. I do not feel at ease with you doing that at this moment.

Karin's mood would instantly improve just by her knowing someone is worrying about her. She would rest her head on his chest as she closed her eyes and did nothing but relax. She was able to hear the rhythm of his heartbeat and feel the warmth emanating from his chakra.

Karin: His chakra reminds me of the warmth that the sun gives off. But it doesn't burn. It's a pleasant sensation. It puts an end to all of my worries and anxieties. Who are you, Goku? Who are you?

Goku: It seems she fell asleep.

After a couple of hours had passed, Karin would begin to awaken to the aroma of food that was being cooked over an open fire.

Karin: Where am I? Just what is going on here?

Goku: Hey, good morning Karin. I see you finally woke up. Are you hungry? I got some fish cooking on the fire. They are about to be done.

Karin: What do you mean morning? How can that be? Why would you let me sleep all day?

Goku: Hahaha. Well, I couldn't wake you up. It seems that you need a good night's sleep. Come on, let's eat.

Goku took Karin over to the spot where he had started the fire and sat her down there. He had grabbed Karin by the hand. Karin receives the dish of food that Goku has prepared and serves it to her. She would eat everything in front of him and then ask for more. Karin's cheeks turned a reddish color once she became aware that Goku was smiling at her.

Goku: I'm happy to see that you enjoy the food. Eat as much food as you possibly can. I have made a great deal. When you're done, we will head out to the gates. We're not that far away.

Karin: Goku, why are you putting yourself through all this trouble? You have absolutely no idea who I am. Why have you treated me with such heart?

Goku: I saw you need help, so I decided to help. That's all, and I'm glad I helped because I made a new friend.

Karin and Goku finish eating and pick up the camp. Goku took Karin to the gates, but before stepping outside the Forest of Death, she turned and faced Goku.

Karin: Goku, thank you for all you did for me, and as payment, could you take my earth scroll?

Goku: Are you sure?

Karin: Yes, I am happy to have you as a friend. If it weren't for you, I probably would have died there. Goodbye, for the time being, Goku. I have faith that our paths will cross again in the future.

Goku would take the scroll that Karin had given him, and also, as a surprise to him, she would give him a hug and a kiss.

Goku watched Karin walk out of the Forest of Death, and he decided to head for the tower.
