The Black Forest lies at the far western edge of the continent. Known as the Land of the Setting Sun, it devours the sun and light, described as a place of darkness in the Church's sacred texts—a battleground where God vanquished demons and devils, an absolute forbidden zone.
Frostwolf Forest is merely the outskirts of the Black Forest. Even so, the depths of Frostwolf Forest remain untouched by humans, not to mention the Black Forest beyond it.
In Frostwolf Forest, Cynthia moved gracefully through the woods like a little fox, flitting between the trees. She relished the sense of freedom this place offered, feeling at home and unrestrained in nature.
From time to time, gray wolves emerged from the woods. Recently, Cynthia had been leading two snow wolves to gradually subdue the surrounding gray wolves. Now, the area around Gray Wolf Valley had become gray wolf territory, forming a vast pack that occupied a large part of Frostwolf Forest.
Above, snow eagles soared, guarding the airspace over Frostwolf Forest. These snow eagles had been specially tamed by David to monitor the forest's movements. Should anyone intrude, the gray wolves and snow eagles would detect their presence and report it to David, the master of Frostwolf Forest.
The unique beast-taming abilities of a beast transformation wizard helped David secure control over the entire Frostwolf Forest.
Construction in Gray Wolf Valley was also underway. With the assistance of Hill, the earth witch, and cement, a palace had been erected in the valley. This site would become a residence for witches, protected by the gray wolves and snow eagles, ensuring its safety. Even if the Church discovered the witches, they could retreat into the Black Forest, making it an ideal sanctuary.
Hill was particularly fond of this place. Not only because she had built it herself but also because it gave her a sense of security. Even now, reflecting on recent events felt surreal. Here, she experienced freedom and respect, no longer needing to hide her identity as a witch for fear of being burned at the stake. The lord even made her a craftsman of Frostwolf Ridge, allowing her to use her witch powers to fulfill her dream of becoming a craftsman. Each time she thought of this, her vision blurred with emotion.
If there truly was a sacred mountain in the world, she believed this was it. And the lord, without a doubt, was the one who redeemed her.
"I must contact the Witches' Mutual Aid Society soon," Hill murmured. The lord had already discussed this with her, but unfortunately, she could not leave Frostwolf Castle and had lost contact with the society's messenger. She truly hoped her sisters from the society could come here. With the lord's protection, she believed they could establish a home for witches.
In the study at Frostwolf Castle, David was sensing the spell imprint of Ice Arrow. Observing the intricate spell model, he noted the magical runes and paths embedded within. This was his first time sensing a spell imprint. Without acquiring the Ice Arrow imprint through dual cultivation with Amy, deciphering and constructing it from the model alone would have been challenging.
"I have two paths to acquire spell imprints," David mused. "The first is obtaining spell models from other wizards, then analyzing and constructing them into imprints using mental and magical energy. The second is having Amy and the others construct the imprints first, then using dual cultivation to copy them directly."
Regardless of the path, he needed more wizard inheritance. He wondered when the other wizards would arrive.
In the manor at Frostwolf Ridge, Annie, though essentially trapped, sensed changes through her summoned creatures, especially in Frostwolf Forest. The gray wolves and snow eagles had been tamed by the Frostwolf Duke. Now, even her summoned creatures struggled to approach the forest's core, all due to the beast transformation witch's abilities.
The construction of stone walls puzzled her. Though made of stone, their origin suggested a wizard's work, likely an earth wizard. The Frostwolf Duke was building walls using earth wizardry, revealing his intent to develop his domain with wizard power.
This realization brought Annie some relief. She began to believe the Frostwolf Duke's earlier words, recognizing his attempt to bolster his strength through wizardry to counter external threats.
"It seems it's time to meet the Frostwolf Duke," Annie thought, holding several notes from witches who had declared their stance. Now, she needed a final meeting with the duke.
At dusk, David practiced ice magic on the mountainside. Although he could acquire Ice Arrow from Amy, mastering it required practice. In his mental realm, the spell imprint, formed by ice energy and mental power, appeared intricate and mysterious. With a thought, he activated the imprint, gathering magic and pushing his right hand forward.
The imprint drew in ice element energy, condensing it into an ice spike. "Go," he commanded, and the spike shot forward, shattering a stone with its icy power, freezing it entirely.
David clapped his hands, satisfied with the Ice Arrow's power. He then looked toward the woods and smiled. "Since you're here, come out."
At his words, the little white mouse emerged, its eyes fixed on the frozen stone in shock. The Frostwolf Duke's ability to cast the zero-ring spell Ice Arrow, coupled with its impressive power, left Annie astonished.
