Chapter 3 - Where Am I? [2]

Samael's consciousness began to fade away like the last flicker of a dying flame.

The strange sphere had claimed him and swallowed his whole consciousness, giving him peace in return.

However, was it really the peace he wanted?

He didn't know.

But then he felt weird as if something was pulling his consciousness inside.

The strangeness continued and abruptly he opened his with a deep shallow breath coming from his mouth. His mind swirled as he couldn't let his head steady, but when his mind cleared he found himself somewhere strange.

His eyes blinked open and the world around him felt... real.

'what the...'

It felt so real.

How long has it been since he had felt that way?

Was it a day? Was it a week? Was it a month?

Or was it a year?

He didn't know, but he surely knew the fact that the feeling of such realism was true...not his mind's doing.

Confusion clouded his thoughts as he began to comprehend everything.

And the first thing noticed was that the body wasn't his.

Not at all.

It was different.

He could feel it.

Slowly, carefully, he turned his head to look at himself. His skin was pale, thinner, almost fragile compared to his previous body.

His heart raced in panic.

This couldn't be real.

But it was.

He placed a trembling hand on his chest, feeling the beating of a heart that wasn't his.

He needed to calm down. The panic rose, choking him, so he forced himself to sit in a corner.

Deep breaths. In and out. In and out. His mind screamed in protest, demanding answers. But his body was too weak to fight against it.

That was when it happened.

A sharp pain shot through his eyes, it was as if something inside his skull had cracked open. His vision blurred as his head spun due to the sudden pain.

It was like lightning coursing through his veins giving a pain that was brief but intense.

When it passed, Samael was once again left gasping for air, feeling his heart race in his chest.

He sat there for a while, seeing his breath return to normal. The pain had subsided, but a cold chill remained in his bones.

As the silence pressed in, memories flooded back to him.

His mother. His father. His brother.

Tears welled in his eyes as he remembered them.

He had never cried before, but now, everything felt like a weight in his chest.

The memories of his mother's death came rushing back, sharp and painful. The accident. She had died right in front of him. And then... he must have died too. He couldn't remember much after that, only the shock, the coldness, and the darkness.

But it didn't matter.

What tore at his heart the most was his brother. His twin brother. They had always been together, and always dreamed of a better future. They had shared so many hopes, so many plans. But now? Now it was all gone.

Samael couldn't help but feel like he had betrayed him. His brother would be alone now, lost and alone without him.

Samael wiped his eyes, trying to push the thoughts aside. The sadness, the ache in his heart, it all felt too much. But he knew he couldn't stay like this. Not forever. He had to figure out what was happening.

It wasn't long before he had completely stopped crying. His heart still ached, but the storm inside his chest had quieted. His eyes began to scan the room again.

His surroundings had stone walls all around with only dim light giving some view of the narrow space he was in.

"Where Am I?"

It was like a cell, but... how? How did he get here?

The answer came to him as if it was always there, waiting for him to notice. The stories he had read. The books he had devoured in his past life.

Transmigration or Reincarnation.

It all sounded impossible, even ridiculous. Yet, Samael couldn't deny it. He had died, that much was clear.

And now... he was somewhere else. With a different life as well as a different body.

He chuckled bitterly to himself. Of course, after everything he had been through, he would find himself in this situation.

It was laughable, but he didn't have the energy to feel angry about it. It was what it was.

Samael closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He wasn't sure what would come next. But for now, he had no choice but to accept this strange reality.

Whatever this new life was, he would have to navigate it. One step at a time.

As Samael was lost in his thoughts, drifting in the quiet and sterile stillness of his small, cramped cell.

A sudden pop-up sound broke the silence, startling DING — a strange sound that sent a jolt of fear through him.

His eyes darted around the room, scanning for any sign of danger, but there was nothing.

The noise echoed in his mind, and before he could gather his bearings, a bizarre, floating window materialized in front of him.

The window was pitch black, its surface etched with strange markings that danced and swirled. At its center was a large, transparent 'X,' as if it were daring him to decipher its meaning.

Samael's heart skipped a beat as recognition washed over him. His mind raced, and a grin began to spread across his face.

"Woh, I got the legendary system!" he exclaimed, his voice cracking the silence of the cell. His words bounced off the cold, stone walls, but his excitement was unmistakable.

He had read about it in the fantasy novels with his brother in his past life.

The legendary system — a mysterious force that granted unimaginable power.

However, something was different here since in every story he had ever read, the system had always appeared as a glowing, vibrant blue.

But this… this was not that system.

The system before him was pure black, an absence of color that felt both eerie and alluring.

Still, Samael's thrill wasn't dampened.

It was his system, after all.

His fingers twitched with anticipation as he leaned closer, eager to interact with the interface.

But then a nagging thought crept into his mind.

'Why isn't it showing anything?' he wondered, watching as the system remained frustratingly blank.

For a few moments, nothing happened.

The black window hovered in the air, its emptiness almost mocking him.

Impatient, Samael made up his mind. He would touch the interface and make it work. His fingers hovered, just inches away from the screen, but before he could make contact, the system popped again.

This time, something appeared on the surface — a single, cryptic message.

Samael froze, his breath catching in his throat.

'What now?'

A black-grey light materialized out of the system and scanned the body of Samael.

Samael felt as if his soul was being checked thoroughly. Then with bold capital letters system showed something to him.

Azael just stared at the interface with wide eyes as it showed one after another things on its interface. Catching his attention next was a question asked by the system.

'status...huh..'

"Why not just see it." He muttered as he clicked on the yes button of the floating window.

And instantly a status window consisting of all the information about the body Samael was in, appeared before him.
