Evan's eyes locked on the massive Mega Stone.
This looked like a Meteorite, but the distinct Mega Stone pattern etched across its turquoise surface set it apart. Gazing at the unusual object, Evan couldn't help but fall into deep thought.
After a moment, Evan composed a message and sent it.
Evan:
[What is that green Mega Stone that looks like a Meteorite?]
After sending the message, Evan turned his attention to other auction items. The assortment was impressive—Dragon Teeth, Keel Bones, and various rare treasures. His gaze landed on two particular Mega Stones—Tyranitar's and Garchomp's.
"I guess that's what Sophia came for this time," he muttered to himself.
But the auction held more surprises. Among the items were eggs of pseudo-legendary Pokémon, a variety of Mega Stones, and rare Pokémon Items. Despite their appeal, the Mega Stones were the true highlights.
Sophia replied quickly to Evan's inquiry.
Sophia:
[Picture]
[Is this what Senior Evan is talking about? This item has been ignored in past auctions.]
[The starting price is 300 million Pokédollars. No one knows what Pokémon this Mega Stone belongs to.]
[Interestingly, this Meteorite comes with the Mega Stone. They only react when together.]
Evan touched his chin thoughtfully as he read Sophia's messages.
"No one knows what it's for, huh?" he murmured. A smile played on his lips.
Evan:
[Please help me bid on it. I'm curious.]
He sent the message silently, wondering if this could be the legendary treasure he was thinking of. If no one recognized its significance, it was because Earth's Pokémon weren't compatible with it.
After all, this was for Rayquaza.
Evan vividly recalled an anime scene where May threw a similar Meteorite to Rayquaza, triggering its Mega Evolution. It seemed likely that the auction staff had tried pairing it with every Pokémon they could think of, all to no avail.
But a Meteorite with a Mega Stone pattern? Evan was sure this was meant for Rayquaza.
Sophia replied again, bewildered by his interest.
Sophia:
[Do you really have the money for this? Why buy it?]
Sophia couldn't fathom why anyone would want something so obscure. It had baffled Pokémon Professors and collectors alike. Was Evan planning to keep it as a collectible?
Evan:
[Collecting it.]
Sophia stared at the message, speechless. Was Senior Evan succumbing to the eccentric habits of the wealthy? Perhaps it was time to consider deducting his dividends. Still, Evan's request left her with no choice.
Sophia sighed as she prepared to place the bid.
"Then don't regret it!!" Sophia retorted.
"Don't come crying to me when you decide you don't want it anymore. Wasting my money like this—I'll fight you tooth and nail!"
Evan replied calmly.
"I won't regret it."
"Oh, by the way," he added, "if you can, pick up more Mega Stones if the price is right. Anything works. Just because we can't use them now doesn't mean they won't be useful in the future. Stock up, just in case."
Sophia sighed as she read his message. The logic of it was sound—Mega Stones held their value, and sometimes they were impossible to find later. But still, the casual tone of his request left her twitching slightly at the corners of her mouth.
"Got it," she typed back curtly.
Sophia was used to Evan's peculiar habits by now, but the next set of instructions left her even more exasperated.
"Sorry to trouble you," Evan continued.
"By the way, I heard there are many Ice-type Pokémon around there. Could you capture a few for me? Put them in the breeding house. I don't have any Ice-types yet. Oh, and they could help save on electricity bills in the winter."
Sophia stared at the screen, aghast.
"Go to hell!!!" she typed back furiously, her frustration boiling over.
She dropped the phone and flopped onto her bed, clutching her newly acquired female Munchlax for comfort. It had taken a liking to her ever since she gave it plenty of energy cubes. Munchlax considered Sophia the best trainer in the world—she provided food, shelter, and opportunities to grow stronger. It wasn't hard to see why Munchlax was so attached.
Meanwhile, Evan smirked as he ended the conversation. The prospect of owning Rayquaza's Mega Stone was exhilarating, even if it might end up as a mere novelty.
"I mean, unless Caterpie can evolve into Rayquaza using this thing," Evan joked to himself, laughing at the absurdity of the thought.
With a shake of his head, Evan set the matter aside and prepared to rest. But just as he lay down, Gardevoir teleported into his room, curling up beside him.
"Master, I'll be sleeping here from now on," Gardevoir declared, hugging his arm.
Evan looked confused. "Why?"
"Charmeleon is close to evolving into Charizard," Gardevoir explained. "Once that happens, there won't be enough space. From now on, it'll just be me, Pikachu, and you."
As if summoned by the declaration, Lurantis entered the room, silently making its way to Evan's other side. Without hesitation, it nudged Pikachu away and took its place.
Pikachu puffed up indignantly. "Pika!!"
Undeterred, Pikachu squared up to Lurantis, challenging it to a playful duel.
Evan groaned. "Alright, everyone, calm down. The bed is big enough for all of us. Let's just get some sleep, okay?"
After settling the scuffle, Evan turned off the lights. On either side of him, Gardevoir and Lurantis snuggled close, while Pikachu eyed them from the foot of the bed, clearly still annoyed.
