The pack
I hold Chhaya's hand tightly as we walk alongside the pack of wolves. Together, we brace ourselves for the battles that lie ahead. Despite my fear, my feelings pushed me forward. I don't think I can confront Saturn. I have only seen her once, and yet I feel as if I am already connected to her. It makes no sense. Waya and Atohi seem ready for a fight, but their determination feels dangerous.
Finally, my eyes spot her, and I start to hyperventilate. She watches me, a sparkle in her eye. She seems sweet, and I want to be the first to experience this connection.
Without hesitation, I see Chhaya rush forward. Her body is tense, and she is shaking, ready to attack. The thought of them fighting each other is unbearable. It would break me.
"Steady," I grab her arm. She looks at me, confused, I'm sure.
"What is your business here?"
Saturn eyes me for a moment, her forehead wrinkled.
"I came to find you."
Oh no! She feels it too, this bond between us. How is this possible?
"Why?"
"I feel…" She looks at the ground for a moment, as if searching for the right words, "connected to you."
I wipe the sweat from my forehead, feeling everyone's eyes on me.
"Oh." I can't pretend that I don't feel it, too. I can't break the pack's trust, so I'll say less.
"You don't feel it too?"
"No, sorry." I feel horrible lying. What can I do?
She nods and then stares at the ground.
Chhaya laughs a rude, sassy laugh, clearly meant to rub it in Saturn's face.
"Chhaya." I look at her with demand in my eyes.
She looks at me, "What?"
"Be nice."
"Who are you?"
"I am a witch, a powerful one, and I can turn a wolf into a dirty little dog." She glares at Chhaya with one hand on her hip.
I chuckle. "A witch, huh?"
"Let me enchant you", she smirks. I watch her as if I were under her spell. I willingly give in. She steps closer, and I know I should be backing away, but I can't help it. I want her near me. so close.
Then her lips land on mine. I kiss her deeply. It's the best kiss I've ever had. I loved it, every minute.
But then, I hear a low growl echo in the air, and a sense of dread washes over me. I know this isn't going to end well. My gaze snapped to Saturn, and I saw fur flying as she leaped into battle. In an instant, she turns around, and my heart sinks as I spot Chhaya lying on the ground, motionless.
"What did you do?" I yell, pushing Saturn away.
Chhaya, I loved her too. Now she was hurt.
"What the hell?! What were you thinking, Yona?" Waya yells.
I feel my face turning red.
"I'm sorry, I got scared." I see Saturn starting to panic.
"Stay calm, everyone." I look around, hoping my wolves don't attack.
Picking Chhaya up, I hold her tightly in my arms. "I'm sorry, my sweet."
