Philip's lips parted slightly, but no words came out. His hands had started trembling without him realizing it. The room suddenly felt suffocating, the air too thick to breathe properly.
"Not that, Mr. Haydra," Philip stammered, forcing a tight smile, though his throat was painfully dry. "I only meant that since it's already in the past, and the case has been closed, we should move on from it."
Jaxton's expression remained unreadable. He adjusted his cufflinks, his lips curling into an easy yet unsettling smile. "But her family wants to reopen the case," he said smoothly. "And they assigned me as her lawyer."
Philip felt his stomach drop.
His fingers clenched around the napkin on his lap, twisting it as if it could somehow steady his nerves.
"Why do I feel like you don't want to help with the case?" Jaxton leaned forward slightly, his piercing blue eyes locked onto Philip's. "Or are you hiding something from us?"
