"What a pity, it really got away... That old ghost is incredibly cautious."

Watching the Gengar retreat after assessing the situation, Sato felt a mix of relief and regret. That Gengar had developed its shadow-based abilities exceptionally well, and Sato couldn't help but be tempted.

If he had been able to capture it, he would have saved a lot of resources and effort in raising another Gengar. Instead, he could have just used the one already trained.

Unfortunately, Gengars of this caliber were extremely cunning and had exceptional escape abilities.

Just the shadow-melding technique it had displayed earlier was already troublesome. Even if Golbat used Mean Look, it might not have been enough to stop the Gengar from fleeing.

However, after driving away that powerful ghost, the eerie atmosphere that had lingered in the forest at night dissipated significantly. The surrounding woods no longer felt as chillingly sinister.

Throughout his journey in the nighttime forest, Sato hadn't encountered many wild Pokémon. However, the ones that did appear were all high-leveled—none lower than level 35.

Among them, the highest-level Pokémon he had encountered so far was the level 45 Gengar from earlier. The second highest was the Scolipede standing before him now, at level 42.

From this data, it was clear how dangerous this Scolipede was. Not only was it at a high level, but it also had the Speed Boost ability—an incredibly powerful trait.

It was likely due to this ability that the Scolipede had managed to survive in such a hostile forest, growing to its current formidable strength.

Even more problematic, this female Scolipede was not alone. A male Scolipede accompanied her.

However, the male was only level 37 and had the Poison Point ability instead.

Alongside them were five Whirlipede and two Venipede, likely their offspring.

The female Scolipede was clearly the dominant one in this family, and she was exceptionally aggressive.

Instead of fleeing upon spotting Sato and his team, she led her entire group straight toward them.

With Speed Boost, this Scolipede was going to be a challenge. She wasted no time, immediately using Steamroller to attack. Curling her body into a tight sphere, she accelerated toward them at high speed.

(Note: Steamroller – Bug-type Physical Move, 65 Power. Effect: Crushes the opponent with a rolling body, with a chance to cause flinching.)

Even though her ability wasn't Poison Point, the exposed spikes on her body were undoubtedly still poisonous.

Now, she was like a rolling sphere of toxic spikes, charging straight at them.

As she accelerated, Speed Boost activated, making her even faster. One second, she was seven or eight meters away; the next, she was almost upon them.

"Perfect. Swampert, use Ice Punch! Let's see if her momentum is stronger than your strength."

Thanks to Golbat's warning, Sato had been prepared for the ambush. Instead of panicking, he was actually excited. He swiftly released Swampert and gave the command.

"Swamp!!"

Swampert let out an eager cry. His face lit up with anticipation as he rushed forward, his right fist already encased in freezing energy. He swung it with full force at the incoming Scolipede.

In terms of raw strength, the Scolipede was no match for Swampert.

However, the momentum from her accelerated rolling attack was no joke.

Like a speeding train, her impact could shatter even boulders.

The moment their attacks collided—

Boom!!

A deafening crash echoed through the forest.

Swampert was sent flying backward, tumbling nearly seven or eight meters before crashing into three trees, breaking them in half.

When he finally stood up, his face was twisted in pain. The ice covering his right arm had completely shattered, and his arm hung limp—clearly severely injured.

But compared to Swampert, the Scolipede had it far worse.

She had been knocked back over ten meters, breaking eight trees along the way. Her body was covered in wounds, and a layer of ice rapidly formed over her, encasing her in frozen energy.

"Well damn, no wonder an outsider like her could survive in the Viridian Forest. She's ridiculously strong. Come on out, Bellossom—heal Swampert! Golbat, Beautifly, Growlithe—take them down!"

Seeing Swampert get blasted so far, Sato's expression turned serious. He immediately released Bellossom to tend to Swampert's wounds.

Then, he sent out Arbok to hold off the female Scolipede, while Golbat, Beautifly, and Growlithe were ordered to handle the Whirlipede and Venipede.

The first enemy to arrive was the male Scolipede, who was also using Steamroller.

Compared to the bulkier female, the male was about half her size.

However, his Poison Point ability made him equally dangerous—his spikes glowed with a sinister purple hue, indicating they were highly toxic.

Though his attack didn't have the same sheer force as the female's, a single scratch from his spikes would almost guarantee poisoning—likely a deadly one.

Sato knew he needed a counter.

"Arbok, wrap him up!"

Arbok was significantly larger than the male Scolipede. While its poison might not be as potent, its resistance to toxins made it a solid match.

Having been defeated by Swampert before and witnessing the strength of Sato's other Pokémon, Arbok had dropped much of its previous arrogance. It no longer resisted Sato's orders.

Now, given its first opportunity to fight for its new trainer, Arbok was eager to prove itself.

Its crimson eyes flashed with excitement as it slithered toward the charging Scolipede.

As it moved, the usual patterns on its chest shifted into a defensive form, activating Stockpile.

(Note: Stockpile – Normal-type Status Move. Effect: Increases Defense and Special Defense while storing energy.)

The moment the two Pokémon collided—

Clang!

Arbok's body, now as solid as iron thanks to Stockpile, barely budged from the impact.

The male Scolipede, on the other hand, was repelled mid-roll, tumbling backward from the force.
