Chapter 189 - The child who can't say no

Pov Dia,

Rias: "Why invite me to the 'Little Devil'?"

Dia: "Because it would be nice to have a little dinner between sisters, and also because it's funny that a devil goes to a place called the 'Little Devil'."

Waiter: "Welcome to the Little Devil, please take a seat while I prepare to take your order."

I had a mental block because the waiter was about Riri's age... no, even younger.

Once seated, I took the time to look around me. The place felt warm and had a cozy, family atmosphere.

Waiter: "Sorry for the wait. Here's the menu. Would you like something to drink while you decide?"

Dia: "An apple juice."

Rias: "A glass of plain water for me."

Waiter: "Okay, noted."

Dia: "Just a quick question — is this your parents' restaurant?"

Waiter: "No."

Dia: "So, is it owned by a family member or one of your parents' friends?"

Waiter: "Also no. My parents didn't even know the manager before I started working here."

It's strange — I'm almost certain that current laws should prohibit a minor from working alone, even if it's to help a family restaurant.

Wanting to question the child further, I discreetly cast a Cloak Charm on the restaurant, encouraging half the other customers to hurry away.

Waiter: "Here are the drinks you asked for. Have you already made your choice?"

Dia: "Yes, I'll have a classic bowl of ramen with firm noodles."

Rias: "For me, an assortment of sushi."

Waiter: "Okay, noted. Please wait a little while I prepare your meal."

It feels good to see young children so polite... Wait, did he just say he was cooking the meal himself?

Rias: "You didn't imagine that, Onee-sama — that's exactly what he said."

Dia: "Can you read my thoughts now?"

Rias: "No, it was just written all over your face."

Fortunately, it's only my sister — otherwise, this could have damaged my reputation… not that I really care.

Waiter: "And here you go, thank you for waiting."

He served us our meals, and I decided to ask if he'd like to spend some time talking with us since there were no more customers.

Dia: "Does your family have money problems for you to be working as a waiter?"

Waiter: "Not at all. They just asked me if I could contribute to the family finances. Also, I'm cooking because the boss went out shopping."

But it's criminal to make a child work for such selfish reasons!

Rias: "How long has the boss been gone?"

Waiter: "I'd say about six hours."

SIX HOURS?! The boss is just as guilty as his parents.

Dia: "I forgot the essentials — my name is Dia Gremory, and this is my little sister, Rias Gremory."

Since we looked alike, I decided to mention my ancient name to avoid any confusion.

Waiter: "Isn't Rias supposed to be the big sister?"

Dia: "No, actually my growth stopped suddenly, and even if it's sad, I'm still Rias' big sister."

Waiter: "I forgot my manners — my name is Suzuki Iruma."

He bowed deeply, and I asked him to talk a little about his life story. The only thing I noticed is that his parents are real criminals.

No, but seriously — who would think of using their baby as bait for fishing or making him clean the house when he'd just taken his first steps?

The worst part of all this is that Iruma can't say no. So as soon as his parents ask him for something, he accepts — no matter the risk.

I used a little telepathy to see all the experiences he'd been through, and honestly, I have no words for what I saw — except that his parents will end up in court.

Someone: "Hi Iruma, you've been working hard."

Speak of the devil... His parents had just arrived at the restaurant.
