Alice wasn't sure if she was ready for what came next.
The cold air burned her lungs as Alice stepped out into the storm, her boots sinking into the snow with each step. The wind screamed around her, pulling at her coat and cutting through the fabric like blades. She gritted her teeth and pressed on, keeping her head low against the force of it. Every step away from the ruins felt like a gamble, but she had no choice. They needed a way out. They needed answers.
Her earpiece crackle as she tried to get a signal. Static. Nothing. She adjusted the frequency, fingers numb from the cold, but still, the line remained dead.
"Damn it."
She had hoped that, this far from the facility, they might have been able to get a connection. If the people who ran that place were monitoring communications, it made sense they would have jammed everything nearby. But was the interference still active, or had something else cut them off?
