Chapter 270 - Taking Ais And Tiona!
Humans cannot have magic independently—only a falna can awaken it.
Yet, even then, the magic granted is limited: one at minimum, three at most.
Since the advent of falna, this rule has held without exception, etched into adventurers' minds over millennia.
But now, that common sense lay shattered.
The young man before them, Mahiro, had defied Falna's limits, mastering more than three magics.
"Another... magic? Water-type?" Lefiya stared at the charred tree, now doused by Mahiro's water stream, her voice trembling.
Mahiro had displayed three magics before their eyes.
Counting those Riveria had witnessed, this was his fifth.
"I trust you're convinced now," Mahiro said with a chuckle, eyeing the Loki Familia's mix of awe and disbelief.
"I knew Mahiro wouldn't bluff!" Tiona beamed, happier than Mahiro himself.
She turned to Bete with a taunt.
"Bete, shut it! Don't judge him with your common sense—he's beyond your guesses."
"Regretting it yet?" Tiona smirked smugly.
Bete's blood boiled, itching to throttle her.
Using Mahiro's own words against him was a low blow.
"Hmph!" He shook his aching arm, glaring at Mahiro stubbornly before turning away, helpless.
Mahiro had targeted him under the guise of "proof," and though Bete knew it, he couldn't refute the evidence.
Continuing the fight would only earn Finn's disapproval.
"Truly..." Finn who'd watched silently from the sidelines during their rest, finally spoke.
"Unbelievable."
"Mahiro, you're an extraordinary adventurer," he added.
In three days, Mahiro had broken Orario's record for fastest rank-up from Level 1 to Level 2.
Now, he'd shattered the magic limit, wielding more than three spells.
Either feat, once unthinkable, now stood undeniable before them.
"You're too kind," Mahiro replied with a smile, shifting focus.
"Back to business, Ais."
"Can I learn magic too?" Ais asked, her eyes alight with longing and hope.
Magic was the adventurer's ultimate prize—a tool to transcend tiers.
Ais, Orario's prodigy and famed Sword Princess, wielded just one: Ariel.
It wasn't a powerhouse offensively but excelled in support, cloaking her in wind to boost speed, defense, and attack power, even allowing brief gliding.
Perfect for her, it elevated her agility beyond Level 5, letting her spar with veterans like Finn and retreat unscathed if outmatched.
She knew magic's might firsthand.
"Of course," Mahiro nodded.
"Mahiro, me too!" Tiona piped up eagerly.
"You promised me before—don't play favorites with Ais!"
"Finn, mind if I borrow Ais and Tiona for a bit?" Mahiro asked, glancing at Finn.
"Even if I said no, they'd probably overrule me," Finn joked with a grin.
"Follow me," Mahiro said.
With Finn's approval, he led Ais and Tiona from the camp to a quiet, secluded meadow to begin their training.
"Captain, you're just letting them go with him?" Bete grumbled, watching their retreating figures.
"Magic—self-taught magic—could turn Orario upside down if word got out," Bete pressed, skeptical.
"He's handing it over to Ais and Tiona that easily?"
"Are you suggesting Mahiro's got ulterior motives with them?" Finn replied, his tone measured.
"It's suspicious," Bete insisted.
"They've known each other what, a few days? And he's giving her something as huge as magic?"
"Your bias against him runs too deep, Bete," Finn said.
"Does a guy bold and skilled enough to solo thousands of monsters need to scheme over this?"
"We're all right here—do you think he'd try anything shady under our noses?"
Bete opened his mouth, then faltered, stumped.
"Bete, want to know why Ais doesn't warm up to you?" Tione interjected.
"Why?" Bete asked, genuinely puzzled.
In his mind, he and Ais were a perfect match—both young, famed Level 5 adventurers.
Who else could pair with her? Yet she treated him no differently than anyone else.
"Childish and petty," Tione said bluntly.
"Mahiro's sharing priceless magic with Ais, while you've got nothing to offer but middle-aged auntie sniping."
'Why's everyone parroting Mahiro's jabs at me?!'
Bete nearly spat blood in frustration.
"Bete, I'm not married, but I've seen plenty of youngsters grow up," Gareth added earnestly.
"That's not how you chase a girl."
Unbeknownst to Mahiro, his actions had landed Bete another round of blows.
Meanwhile, he stood in the meadow with Ais and Tiona, teaching magic fundamentals.
Thanks to Akeno's tutelage, his grasp of fundamentals was solid—teaching them should've been straightforward.
Or so he thought.
"Wait, Mahiro," Tiona interrupted, raising a confused hand mid-lesson.
"You said focus your mind to gather mana in your body like a stream, but I don't feel any mana at all."
