Chapter 73 - V2 Chapter 20

 _ _ _3rd POV_ _ _

(Cool...) Was the only word that came to mind as Mel watched the tv with her friends.

On the screen was a giant monster that towered over the surrounding city, it laughed maniacally while spouting some kind of evil monologue. Its body looked like a human mixed with some kind of prehistoric fish or dinosaur, it was rather bizarre looking to be honest.

The gargantuan beast in question tried to let out a roar but was quickly cut off when a massive metal object smashed into its face sending it skidding back several hundred meters. It cursed and shouted in rage as it turn to it attacker, said attacker being a multicolored robot that matched it in sheer size.

The mechanical being seemed to be made up of several smaller robots all fused together into a massive mech of some kind. Most of it's body was a mixture between red, white, black and gold, it's right arm was it massive red drill while it's left seemed to almost resemble a blue triceratops. Additionally the head of a red tyrannosaurus rex could be scene protruding from the center of its chest, a fact that only added to it's odd yet interesting appearance.

"Go get them!"

"Beat up that meanie!"

"Mean people are mean, so beating them up is okay."

"Jonas's little demonstration should be done by now." One of the adult that had been put in charge of watching the children said to her colleague as said children cheer in the background.

The man in question shivered at the mention of the mad scientist. "God...that guy really creeps me out, he even threatened to dissect me one time."

(I don't think mister Jonas is that bad, he is usually really nice.) Mel thought innocently before turning back to the screen.

"I wonder if we'll ever get to see something like that in real life..." She hummed under her breath.

Mel knew that this was just a cartoon and that it wasn't actually real, however she couldn't help but wonder, just how amazing would it be to see something like that in person? How fun would it be to pilot one? And what would it feel like to move something like that around while scaring away all the bad people?

Turning to the female attendant Mel tried to get her attention. "Miss? Miss I have a question."

"What is it?"

"Do you think it's possible to make one of those?" She asked while pointing at the massive robot on the screen.

The woman seemed to want to say no but suddenly stopped herself. "Normally...normally I'd say no, however after learning that it is possible to travel to other universes, well, at this point I can't really rule anything out as not being possible." She muttered not really having a clear answer.

"I guess so..." Mel mused in thought.

(Maybe big sister Carmen can make one?)

I sat in my own personal laboratory, a place that had been my private space for some time now, and I had come here right after Jonas's demonstration had finished. Currently I was looking at something in front of me, something that would make a normal sane person freak the fuck out to say the least. What stood before me was a massive structure that covered the wall furthest from the room's exit as well as some of the ceiling above.

This strange structure was seemingly made of a paper like substance and was crawling with thousands upon thousands of small winged creatures that buzzed rhythmically. These creatures, which were clearly a type of wasp, were mostly black in colour with some yellow mixed in, they had a somewhat heart shaped head and had a stinger at the end of their abdomen.

They were scientifically known as Agelaia vicina, a type of wasp usually found in southern areas of Brazil, known for their massive nests and colonies that can reach up to, or over, a million members. They're not the largest species of wasps, nor do they have the most deadly or painful sting, what truly makes them dangerous is their sheer numbers, and while that was true in this case as well there was clearly something different about these ones.

Any biologist that's actually worth a damn could tell you something was off about this particular colony, not counting the fact that they were completely calmed despite the close proximity of such a strange unknown creature. To put it simply, they weren't acting like most members of their species, they exhibited little quirks and mannerisms that others of their kind simply didn't have. Honestly, they just seemed smarter then they have any right to be.

For example, the way they interact and coordinate with each other seems to have changed dramatically, they were using rudimentary tactics when attacking prey as a group. They were even collecting less aggressive insects to keep as livestock in a sense, well, it was more like they were storing them for later consumption instead of raising them as a breeding stock but you get my point.

If you hadn't guessed by now these wasp had been added to my hive mind as a test, you see I wanted to experiment with how non sentient creatures became more intelligent over time after I had connected them to my hive mind. Like how my xenomorphs grew smarter back in the Trial, actually most of my xenomorphs had simply become more tactical in combat and had long stopped increasing in intelligence sometime ago. Of course there were some who still continued to grow, all of the praetorians and predaliens being two such examples, however the one that seemed almost hungry for more knowledge was Navara, she had actually managed to learn how to read and write all on her own quite some time ago.

Anyway, getting back on topic, this particular brood of Agelaia vicina had been raised by me since their very beginning. I had managed to get my hands on a queen of their species and quickly added her to the hive mind, and over a long period of time she gave birth to nearly half a million offspring. As for my test, well, they're overall mental state had advanced far beyond that of a normal member of their species, however they were still nothing more than slightly intelligent animals that still relied mostly on instinct.

"It seems that this might be their limit of mental advancement..." I muttered under my breath as I scribbled in my notebook.

Sighing I leaned back in my chair. (This is about what I expected but I'm still curious, maybe if I put them in a stressful environment it might kick start them to develop even further.)

"Miss Carmen." A calm voice suddenly pulled me from my thoughts.

"Jesus fucking christ!" I hissed as I turned around sharply. "Don't fucking jump scare me like that you bloody asshole."

Standing there was the familiar rigid form of a synthetic, its milky skin and robotic eyes making it easy for me to identify. "I do apologize for the intrusion miss."

(I still haven't gotten used to these guys even after all this time...) I thought, feeling a little uncomfortable as I looked up at the artificial being before me.

"What is it?" I asked.

"The last shipment of fauna and flora just arrived a few minutes ago."

It took me a moment to register that. "Right...right forgot that was coming today."

Why exactly was I having my followers collect large numbers of various animals and plants from all over the world? Simply put, I had a lot of holes to fill in my Sanctuaries ecosystem, additionally having their DNA available for later use couldn't hurt as well.

"Additionally, the Energyne station in orbit is experiencing some...issues." Now that got my attention.

"What kind of issues?" I asked already somewhat knowing the answer.

"It appears that there has been a containment breach of sorts."

(So the main plot finally begins huh...) I thought to myself.

"If that is all then you can go." I said while waving them away dismissively.

"As you wish." They nodded politely before leaving.

Once it was gone I opened up a link. <>

<> He answered without hesitation.

<> I asked and suddenly got a response from Anow'ka.

<

That caused me to cross my arms as I asked. <>

<> She responded instantly.

<> Of course I didn't actually mean that literally but you get my point.

<> Darook responded with his usual calm demeanor.

<> I didn't actually know if it was still alive or not but I hadn't gotten any kind of system message saying that I had failed the side mission so I could only assume it was still breathing.

<> Enu mused, sounding genuinely interested in the subject.

<> Ootora muttered to himself half heartedly.

<> I said only for Dengwei to chime in loudly.

<>

I heard several sighs in response to that little declaration. (Well...this is going to be very interesting to watch...) Anyway, with that all out of the way I got up while opening a new link.

<>

<> The somewhat crazy woman in question responded immediately.

Even after all this time the way that some of my followers are creepily obsessed with me still makes my skin crawl. I do try my best to ignore the awe in their voices when they talk to me or how they seem to take my words as if they are some kind of divine message, but anyway, back to the conversation at hand.

As I began to leave I pressed a big red button built into the side of the wall next to the door, a button that quickly showed its purpose as a blood red gas began pouring into the room from various vents built into the ceiling. Slowly but surely the gas began filling the room, spreading over everything, including the large hive covering the far wall.

"Welp...let the games begin."

(A/N. I'm currently tried as hell, mostly because I have been up all night, so sorry for any spelling mistakes you might end up finding.)
