Chapter 146: Another World Part 3
It had been three days since Setsuna and Uchiha Kagami arrived in this world, and a lot had changed during that time.
The slums, once filled with the stench of human waste, were finally being cleaned by the people who lived there.
On the second day after his arrival, Setsuna decided to hire several adults, specifically to clean the human feces.
At first, they demanded money, but when Setsuna offered something better—food and clothes—they became more diligent. It was not easy for them to buy food at a cheap price. Compared to buying outside the slums, with just two copper coins, they could only get 500 grams of rice and five eggs.
But with Setsuna he paid more, each worker will get 1kg of rice, 10 eggs, lettuce, and tomatoes everyday. They were also provided with bread for breakfast and some meat for lunch. For the children, they could eat for free if they successfully read and solved the questions Setsuna gave them.
The tasks Setsuna assigned were simple: building septic tanks for toilets, cleaning up rubbish and feces, and constructing waterways so people could wash their hands.
He also introduced new rules, such as prohibiting spitting on the road, dumping human waste improperly, wash their hands before eating, take a shower after working.
In just three days, the slum had visibly become cleaner, and even the foul smell that once radiated from the area was slowly disappearing.
This was something that the previous nobles had failed to achieve. If they knew that the slums were changing, they might have claimed the land early before other nobles could reclaim it.
---Meeting first female leads---
This world is one where several stories share the same universe. Setsuna has only read one of the novels, which is about a king, a crown prince, and his illegitimate son. So, he knows about the major events that might happen in the future.
Up until now, he's still confused about whether he's inside a VR machine or in a real world. But that's not important, because whatever happens, he needs to enjoy his life. He's living his dream life—he has a beautiful wife and wealth. So, why should he do something foolish like trying to return to his past world?
Now, something happens to Setsuna.
Deep in the jungle, Setsuna and Kagami found a malnourished mother and child.
The child is the female lead of this story. Essentially, a baron abandoned a beautiful maid and her child. They struggled to survive and eventually sought help from the baron. However, they were denied, and the mother died in front of the mansion. The female lead would be abused by the baron's family until the male lead arrived.
But now, Setsuna was here, looking at the two of them. He took out some food and started cooking beside them. The smell of food reached their noses and instantly woke them up.
The female lead looked at Setsuna and Kagami, who were busy cooking.
"Do you want to eat?" asked Setsuna.
Elina nodded and then turned to her mother.
"Madam, do you want to eat too?" Setsuna asked again.
Sabrina also nodded.
He then put porridge in a bowl and showed them how to eat it.
"Eat slowly, like this," said Setsuna, then passed another bowl to both of them.
"Thank you," said Sabrina.
Setsuna added more food to their bowls.
"Eat slowly. If you're still hungry, there's more food," Setsuna said.
It wasn't until they finished eating, and Elina, exhausted, had fallen asleep, that Setsuna asked Sabrina a question.
"My name is Setsuna. What's your name?" he asked.
"I'm Sabrina, the former maid of Baron Talon," Sabrina replied.
"Is she your child? Where is her father?" Setsuna asked.
"Baron Talon no longer wanted us in his home, so he expelled both of us," Sabrina replied.
Kagami, upon hearing this, became angry. He couldn't understand how a father could so easily banish his own child.
"So, the father is Baron Talon... I'm sorry to ask this, but did he force himself on you in the past?" Setsuna asked gently.
Sabrina froze, then began to sob. Setsuna waited for ten minutes, but it was clear she was traumatized.
"If you're looking for a new place to live, you can come with us," said Setsuna.
Sabrina looked up and asked, "Do you mean as a maid?"
"That depends. If you come with us, we'll take a look at your skills and see what job suits you best," Setsuna replied.
They now had a lot of money. Selling items like salt, pepper, and black pepper in this medieval age had made them rich. These items were once known as black gold in the past.
---Kagami POV---
It had been the fourth day since he followed his teacher into a new world. He was shocked after passing through the gates and wanted to learn about the seals that could achieve this type of travel.
However, this new world was very different from his shinobi world. In the past, he was among shinobi and didn't fully understand the suffering of civilians.
In this world, there were no ninjas, but a strict hierarchy system was in place. Nobles, civilians, and slaves all had their roles, with the nobles benefiting the most. He had seen the unsanitary conditions people lived in, where they would throw human waste onto the streets.
He followed his teacher in selling highly sought-after goods that were easily available in the shinobi world but could be sold for much higher prices here.
Gradually, the slums changed. He saw malnourished children becoming happier, wearing new clothes. Seeing their smiling faces stirred fatherly feelings in Kagami, filling him with happiness and satisfaction.
He slowly began to understand why his teacher, Setsuna, emphasized the importance of the economy in Uzushiogakure—money truly mattered.
If he were a normal civilian, he might have been satisfied with their progress, but as a shinobi, he desired to change the hierarchy of this world, especially after realizing that nobles could simply force themselves on common women and even expel them from their homes.
Kagami asked his teacher about this, and Setsuna shared the same desire, though he was toning it down for the time being, as he was currently building influence.
A leader without influence is not a leader. So, while helping those in the slums, Setsuna was also cultivating influence.
Maybe because of Setsuna, Kagami slowly picked up the habit of roaming the land. He became a "black knight in shining armor," punishing nobles who tried to molest women.
Luckily, he followed his teacher's suggestion to use shadow clones and change his appearance to someone who looked very strong. Many people had been saved by him and brought back to the slums.
But one day, his actions brought unexpected consequences when he saved someone who wasn't part of the original story.
Author Notes - 2 more chapter then this arc will end. Because of hatred of multiverse and request from the reader. I decided this arc will be the last, I won't put any other arc using the another world gates. (for example one piece, demon slayer) Lets focus only naruto verse. Hell Yeah
