Amelia Clarke was dressed in an evening gown overlaid with a down jacket. Owen Moreland first got out of the car, walked around to her side, opened the door, and draped his coat over her exposed legs beneath her gown before lifting her out of the car.
She had been pondering the dramatic events of the evening, but as they entered the villa's gate, she was instantly captivated by the sight within the courtyard.
The courtyard had been elaborately decorated. From the gate to the entrance door, the driveway had been transformed into an arched pathway. The streetlamps were off, but the ground on both sides of the archway shimmered with misty ground lights. Above, densely packed tiny lights twinkled like stars—so close it seemed as if one could touch the dazzling, mysterious beauty.
Amelia couldn't help but reach out to touch them, only to find they weren't as near as they appeared.
