Chapter 49 - Chapter 48: Quiet Rage

The sunset bathed the city in hues of orange and gold as Camron leaned against the wall of the observation deck, arms crossed, his jaw tight. He watched the horizon, but his thoughts were far from peaceful. His usually calm demeanor was replaced by something unfamiliar—quiet, burning rage.

Word of Reina's obsession with Unmei had spread across the base like wildfire. But Camron didn't care about her twisted crush. No—what burned in his veins was what she intended to do. To Kazu.

The same Kazu who had saved him. Who saw past his past. Who gave him a chance when no one else would. The boy who smiled even when he had no reason to. The boy who reminded him of Kami—kind, brave, and heartbreakingly selfless.

The image of Kazu's battered body, unconscious and bound in that grim citadel, still haunted Camron's dreams.

And Reina… Reina dared to try again.

"Disgusting..." Camron muttered under his breath, gripping the railing until his knuckles turned white.

He had smiled when she passed him earlier, acted indifferent, even nodded politely.

But deep down, he wanted her gone.

Forever.

Later that evening, Camron stood in the garden behind HQ. He always found peace here—it reminded him of his time with Kami. The wind carried the scent of jasmine, and moonlight shimmered on the surface of the fountain nearby.

But tonight, even the calm couldn't extinguish the fire in his heart.

Mamoru approached from behind, sensing the tension. "You okay?"

Camron didn't turn. "No."

Mamoru stayed silent.

"She wants to hurt him," Camron finally said, voice low and sharp. "He's just starting to heal. He smiles again. He walks without flinching again. And she—" His fists clenched. "She wants to take that away."

"We won't let her," Mamoru said firmly.

Camron turned his head slightly, eyes fierce. "If she lays a single finger on him... Yokai or not... I swear, I'll make her wish she never existed."

There was no hesitation in his voice. No remorse. Only unshakable protectiveness.

Mamoru didn't stop him. He simply nodded.

Because in truth, they all felt the same.

After coming back from visiting kami's grave kaku took kazu back to the infirmary to rest. Kazu sat quietly, flipping through a book. He didn't know the storm that brewed just outside. He didn't know the brother he'd gained was preparing to defend him with everything he had.

But somewhere in his heart, Kazu felt safe.

And that was all Camron needed to keep the rage burning silently.
