CHAPTER 108: WHITE LIE I
"How should I reward you?" James asked as they stepped into the shower, his voice laced with a playful tone.
Diana raised an eyebrow, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Will you call off your goons?" She inquired.
"No," James replied sharply. "They're there for your protection."
Diana sighed. "Then I don't know. Just do what you want—I'm already late for my meeting."
"What meeting?" James asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I have a meeting with the girls this morning to discuss some things," Diana replied vaguely.
"Some things?" James probed, but Diana didn't elaborate.
"Hmm," she hummed in response, clearly unwilling to share more.
James took the hint and didn't push further. "How late are you?" he asked.
"Twenty minutes."
"Then we should hurry."
She nodded, and they quickly finished showering. James dressed in casual clothes and headed downstairs while Diana took her time to get ready.
She chose a blue, sleeveless straight-cut jumpsuit and paired it with black stilettos. She styled her hair neatly and applied a touch of powder to her face.
She descended from the stairs, her movements efficient and graceful.
James was already waiting for her with a cup of coffee in hand.
"Ready?" James asked, his eyes filled with admiration.
Diana nodded, her smile radiating confidence. "Let's go."
Nicodemus handed James a bag containing Diana's breakfast and medication. James thanked him, his gaze lingering on Diana for a moment.
"You look incredible," he said, his voice filled with pride.
Diana blushed, her eyes dropping to the ground. "Thanks," she murmured.
"Come on, I'll drive you."
"Really?" Diana asked, surprised.
"Yup, really. At least I'm faster than Antonio," James said with a playful smirk, glancing at Antonio, who stood nearby.
Antonio swallowed nervously and bowed his head. "Let's go, then. Oh, your medication for today is with the food. Honey, I trust you'll take it," James added.
"I promise I will," Diana said, giving him her most innocent look.
James nodded and stood up, taking her hand and leading her to the car. He opened the door for her, and once she was settled, James climbed into the driver's seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel with a sense of purpose.
He navigated the city streets with ease, his special pass as one of the most influential economic figures in the country granting him access to the fastest routes.
In less than six minutes, they arrived at Diana's office building. James watched her as she got out of the car, his eyes filled with a mixture of love and protectiveness. And something else 'dread'....
