The caravan went on to the Malkin Merchant shop while Misty's carriage and husbands swung around to Cabbot's home. It was nothing special. Cabbot and his wife and child kept the home clean, but they couldn't hide the peeling walls and squeaking stairs. On the way back down, Kason even knocked a railing down. But when he went to put it back, he saw the chewed edges of the wood and the glue that had been holding it together.
"This is clearly unsafe." Kason muttered to himself.
"All the homes on this side of town are like this." Cabbot informed them. "The city lord owns these properties and leases them out at high prices. We all know that he is just a stooge for Cixin. They are the true landlords of these homes and many of the stalls in the market." Ushering his child down the steps, he and his wife grabbed the few possessions that they owned.
"They are like slum lords. I bet that the money you make all goes to paying for food and housing?"
