The girls exchanged glances.
Larissa clicked her tongue. "You're really letting her win this one, huh?"
Zoe shrugged, smirking. "Hey, if he needs it, he needs it."
But Jane?
Jane didn't say anything. She just stared at Allen. And in that moment, she knew.
Oh, yes. She caught it instantly.
Allen hadn't said a word about the call from his mom earlier, but Jane could tell. Even if he looked calm on the outside, Jane knew Allen was the type to bottle things up, to bury things deep, pretending it didn't matter.

Inside, it was probably a raging storm. Her eyes flicked over him, catching the subtle signs.
The way his shoulders held a little more tension than usual.
The way his fingers twitched slightly against Alice's waist.
The way his breathing was just a little more controlled than normal, like he was holding something back.
