Saturday.
We were on our way to the park when we met the old woman who asked for his help. We walked past the wishing creek at the park and I remembered the first time he brought me there.
"Do you remember what you wished for the first time I came here?" I asked him and heard him chuckle softly.
"Very much," he replied. I could see his smile in the water till someone threw a rock in and the waves of the water messed with the image.
"Tell me?" I went up in his face and giggled.
"You won't believe it," he laughed too.
"I will. What, did it come true?" I got more interested in it."I'll tell you what I wished for, if you tell me yours." I proposed and he bit his lips.
"I..." He started and I remained quiet, wanting to hear."I wished you would say yes when I asked you out. And you did." He had a big smile.
"I just remembered, you told me that day," I giggled and grabbed him arm.
"I did?" He didn't remember."Did you tell me yours then too?"
"Nah, I didn't. Nick and my aunt were looking for me that day so I just went inside..." I laughed when it showed on his face that he remembered."I actually wished you'll like me back," I shook my head with a low giggle.
"I guess the creek does grant wishes..." He trailed and it occurred to me, how very true his words were.
I had also wished that my mum would only have to spend a short time in her rehab center and it happened.
My mood immediately changed. My mum still hadn't called. Why am I putting her over Uche? Did she deserve it? I've always defended her and never let anyone say anything bad about her but now I think of it, she could actually stay with my grandparents and have them vouch her staying off drugs instead of me.
She could do that.
"Wanna make a new wish?" Uche nudged me with a rock in his hand. I took it and watched him pick a new one for himself. He closed his eyes like a child and murmured to the stone before throwing it in the water.
When he was done, he turned to me with an excited smile so I asked him; "What did you wish for?"
"That you never stop liking me?" He shrugged. I snorted, thinking he was joking at first but I saw he was serious.
"Oh." I just said and bit my lip after. I inhaled air and made a wish before tossing my rock in the water.
I expected he'd ask for my wish, but he didn't. He just took my hand in his like it was before we got to the creek.
"When Nick and I were younger, he once told me that he'd buy this park when he grew up and he'd make it a rule for people to throw in pennies instead of rocks."
"What?" I laughed at the information I just received and heard him laugh too.
"Now, he doesn't even come here anymore." He sighed after and held my hand tighter."I'll get us ice cream," I heard him say before letting go of my hand.
My eyes followed him as he headed towards the ice cream truck slowly driving out of the park. I stood under one of the tree shades in the isrk while waiting.
Uche constantly turned his neck to make sure I was still where he left me. It made me laugh. I got lost in a party once when I was high and now he does this.
"Hey," someone called my attention from behind. I turned to see a handsome guy around my age, but I couldn't identify him. Not like I know everyone in this town in the little time I've spent here, but I at least knew the kids who went to our school, and I could tell he wasn't one of us.
I waited for him to say the reason he called my attention but he didn't say anything so I turned away from him but he came in front of me, scratching the back of his neck with an annoying smirk.
"Don't mind me, I just...I didn't know your face was going to be as attractive as your body was from behind." He bit his lip, but not offensively, quite nervously if you ask me.
"I have a boyfriend," It has never felt so good to say that. He chuckled when I informed him.
"Well, at least let me introduce myself or something...damn..." He cleared his throat and stood upright, and then I realized he was just about as tall as Uche."I'm Liam, William actually but you can call me Liam," he put out his hand for a handshake but I just snorted and ignored it.
"Really? Are you really gonna do that?" He took his hand back and sighed."You really like him, huh?"
"Yeah," I nodded with a proud smile, hoping this was the point he gave up and left my sight but no, it wasn't.
"To be honest, I really don't mind being a side piece. I mean, I..."
"Eww," I couldn't help but cut him short, my face scrunched in disgust even if I believed he said that as a joke. Or did he?
"Eww what? I'm literally gonna let you use me, I don't mind." He laughed and I immediately confirmed he was joking."But seriously though, do you really have a boyfriend?"
"I do. He's getting me...us ice cream."I corrected.
"So he's here?" Liam started to look around. I didn't have to answer that. I think he spotted Uche paying for our ice cream. I looked over there and cut Uche frequenting his eyes towards where I stood with Liam.
"Look, I have a boyfriend, okay? Bye." I told Liam and walked past him to go join Uche but he met up to my strides and stopped me by standing in front of me again.
"So you won't give me your number?"
"No." I answered without a specific expression on my face, deciding to be mean enough to keep him away.
"What about your snap? Or your insta handle?"
"No, leave me alone..." I hissed and walked past him again.
"Can I not at least know your name?" He joined me in walking towards Uche.
"No. Go away."
"Please?" He persisted and I stopped and turned to him.
"What will you do with my name?"
"Keep it in my memory and wait for when you two break up?" He nodded towards the direction of the now parked ice cream truck and I lost my mean face after not being able to hold my laughter.
"You're not even from here?" I sneered.
"And neither are you," he shrugged so confidently like he knew what he was talking about.
"Who told you that? My mum grew up here..."
"Yeah, but not you. I've never seen you here since all the time I've come by to visit my grandma. You're new face."
