"Tao Te is resting in the bedroom on the second floor. He'd be thrilled to know someone came to visit him!"
"I suppose Mr. Tao Te would say, 'Kid, don't keep coming over to freeload meals and drinks. I don't need anyone's pity.'"
Chen Lun mimicked Tao Te's tone as he spoke.
Mrs. Caroline covered her mouth and laughed.
"You're right, little Jack. Tao Te is just that kind of person—his bark is worse than his bite. But he still longs for care. I've been his neighbor for nearly ten years. I understand him more than anyone else."
Immediately after, Chen Lun followed Mrs. Caroline upstairs, into a bedroom at the end of a hallway.
Mr. Tao Te was lying in bed asleep, seemingly in a deep, peaceful slumber.
