Lexie's POV
It's been days, and Katelyn still hasn't come back home. Did someone kidnap her? Did she run away without telling me? I've called her a thousand times, and she hasn't answered once.
I sigh deeply and dial her number again. Straight to voicemail.
"Hey, Katie... I know you're scared about your transformation into a werewolf. But we can talk about this."
I spin in my desk chair, staring at my phone. Five seconds later, I call again.
"Hey...ugh, I sounded so horrible when I said that."
Another five seconds. Another call.
"Hey Katelyn, remember that time when you lost your eyeshadow palette? I think I just found it."
Still nothing.
I groan loudly, flopping back onto my bed. Then I sit up and dial again.
"Katie, I swear, if you don't answer this phone, I will track you down, and I will-"
Voicemail.
I grit my teeth and call again.
"KATELYN, IF YOU ARE ALIVE AND IGNORING ME, I AM GOING TO SHAVE YOUR EYEBROWS OFF IN YOUR SLEEP!"
My phone beeps.
A text. From Katelyn.
Katelyn: Lexie. Chill.
I stare at the screen. And then, with a dramatic gasp, I throw my phone onto my bed.
"Oh, so NOW she responds?!"
I lean forward and grab my phone.
Lexie: Where u at?
Katelyn: I'm with a friend.
And I think I know who this friend is.
With a smirk I text back.
Lexie: You mean that cute boy you were trying to help out that one day?
Katelyn: HANDS OFF! Also yes.
I grin, twirling a strand of my rainbow-colored hair between my fingers.
Lexie: Aww, Katie, are you getting protective?
Katelyn: No! I just-ugh! It's complicated!
I smirk, already sensing the drama.
Lexie: Suuuure it is. Does this "friend" know how much you blush when you talk about him?
Katelyn: LEXIE STOP! Also I don't even blush around him!
I let out a giggle, kicking my feet on the bed. Oh, this is too good.
Lexie: Right... But I'll stop messing with you... for now. But you OWE me details when you get back!
No response.
I raise an eyebrow, waiting.
Still nothing.
"...Oh, she's totally ignoring me now." I huff, crossing my arms. "She better not think that gets her out of this conversation."
I smirk again, already coming up with a plan. If Katelyn won't spill the details willingly... I'll just have to investigate myself.
I roll off my bed, and crawl back over to my desk chair, laughing like a gremlin and I turn on the computer. Katie can't hide from me forever.
I crack my fingers, grinning mischievously as my computer boots up. "Alright, Katelyn, if you won't tell me what's going on, I'll just have to find out myself."
I open up my social media tabs, scrolling through Katelyn's most recent activity. Nothing. She hasn't posted in days. Suspicious.
"Alright, fine. We do this the hard way," I mutter, flipping open another tab.
Tracking Katelyn isn't that hard-I mean, I'm not a hacker or anything, but I do know how to check locations on our shared accounts.
Bingo.
Her last known location was way outside the city, near some creepy-looking woods. Seriously, Katie? Are you starring in a horror movie now?
I grab my phone again.
Lexie: So, when were you going to tell me you're hanging out in the middle of nowhere?
No response.
I drum my fingers on my desk, waiting. Then, finally-
Katelyn: Lexie. Don't.
I gasp dramatically. "Oh-ho-ho, now I have to."
Lexie: Ohhh, this is so mysterious. What are you hiding from me, sis?
No response again.
I narrow my eyes. "Fine. If you won't tell me, I'll come find you myself."
I grab my coat and my keys, practically skipping out of my house.
"Operation 'Find Katelyn and Her Mysterious Boyfriend' is officially in motion."
I climb into my car, and turn the key. Katelyn thinks she can keep secrets from me? Her own sister? Please.
After what feels like forever, I finally arrive. The streetlights barely reach the entrance of the woods, and a shiver runs down my spine.
Okay, maybe this is a little horror movie-y.
I shake it off and step forward. "KATELYN! If you're out there, you better answer me!" I call into the trees.
Silence.
I pull out my phone and check Katelyn's location again-still here. I take a deep breath and walk further in.
Snap.
I freeze. That was not me.
Slowly, I turn my head, my heart pounding. "Uh... K-Katie?"
I scream as someone grabs me by the hood of my jacket and pulls me into the forest.
Oh.
Wait.
"Hi, Katie!"
"What are you doing out here?" Katelyn growls.
"I was just trying to find you," I explained. "You've been gone for so long!"
"Oh, shut up. I've only been gone for a few days! Go home!"
I smirked. "Not until you tell me who the boy is. Come on sis! You have to tell me!"
Katelyn shook her head. "No. Besides I...I'm not in love with him."
"Denial! Now please tell me! I won't judge!" I begged.
Katelyn's POV
I cross my arms. "I'm not in denial. I just... I don't want to talk about it."
"Oh, come on! You know I won't stop until you spill the beans." Lexie grins mischievously. "Besides, it's not every day I get to hear about you and some mysterious boy."
I roll my eyes but can't suppress the small smile tugging at my lips.
"Fine, fine," I mutter, not meeting her eyes. "His name is Jason, and he's... complicated."
"Complicated?" Lexie repeats, her voice dripping with exaggerated disbelief. "That's it? No juicy details? Come on, Katie! I need more than that!"
I sigh, resisting the urge to laugh. "He's... not really what you'd expect. He's tough, but kind of weirdly sweet when he lets his guard down. And he has... well, a complicated past."
"Aha! So, a mysterious boy with a troubled past!" Lexie practically squeals. "You're definitely falling for him!"
"No I'm not!" I snap, but it comes out more defensive than I'd like.
Lexie raises an eyebrow, clearly enjoying teasing me. "So, you're telling me, you're out here with him, in the middle of nowhere, and you're not in love?"
I groan. "I'm not in love with him, Lexie. Stop saying that."
"Sure, sure," she says, with an exaggerated wink. "But you'll come around eventually. Everyone does with a guy like that."
"Lexie, you don't understand...being a werewolf may seem cool and all, but there's a huge downside. Like, a really huge downside."
Lexie gives a wave of her hand. "Oh yeah, I know. Every male werewolf is fighting over something. And every female werewolf is being fought over."
I laughed softly. "Well that's kinda the annoying part. But the worst part of being a werewolf is, everyone wants to kill you."
