Chapter 21 - The Roanoke colony disappearance

In this small chapter we will see the biggest unsolved mystery in the United States.

It all began in August 1587, when a group of English colonists arrived on the island of Roanoke, off the coast of what is now North Carolina. These people intended to form an English outpost in the new world.

Years later the governor of this new colony (John White) sailed back to England to gather new supplies.

But just when he arrived, a war broke out between England and Spain, by then Queen Elizabeth I, called all her ships to face the Spanish Armada.

Then, in August of 1590, when the governor returned to his colony in Roanoke, where he left all his family and other people, he found absolutely nothing, no trace of the colony or his family, he only found a word carved on a "Croatoan" wooden pole.

For long centuries researchers have followed the search for him, but nothing is known yet.

It is believed that the settlers could have been murdered, kidnapped or tortured, but there is still no satisfactory answer.

Another hypothesis that the researchers hold is that the colony was swallowed by the sea, perhaps they found a very bloody end at the hands of the Spanish.

And to finish this mysterious story, in 2007, they began to collect and analyze DNA from local relatives to verify if there is anyone related to this mystery, or perhaps from a tribe close to this case.

After 436 years, what do you think?

all an unsolved mystery?

Tell me in the comments, what is your theory or hypothesis?

Do you find anything logical in this case?

After several decades, will it be possible to find out what really happened? What do you think?

If you are more curious this is something that can help you solve this case: (Read carefully for details) These are small details that are involved in this case.

Philip II (1527-1598)

The King of Spain, known as "the prudent" was the eldest son of Emperor Carlos V and Empress Isabella of Portugal.

Felipe II, married Maria Manuela de Portugal, Infanta de Portugal, cousin of Queen Elizabeth I.

In the early years Philip II sought peace and participated in defensive wars, doing this convinced him that Spain would need resources to pay for a war.

At that time Felipe II was the most powerful monarch of his time.

Elizabeth I (1558-1603)

She was Queen of England from 1558 to 1603, her 44-year reign was very long and full of very important events.

Curious fact

"Queen Maria suspected Elizabeth of betraying her, and confined her to the Tower of London, in 1554."

As an extra fact, Spain was the enemy of England. That gives Felipe II and Isabel I reasons to start a war.

At 25 she was crowned queen in a grand and majestic ceremony.

And now it's up to you, who are reading this to create your own theory, leave in the comments what you think.
