In the end, Kat did leave. Nobody was entirely happy with how the conversation ended, and Kat was a bit disappointed in herself for how she was treating the group… but it was hard. The push and pull of trying to treat them like the adults they looked like and the kids they acted like. The questions with answers that should be obvious and yet nobody seemed to get… the fact that Kat had worked out these were the troublemakers that had been causing issues for everyone else. The fact Kamiko was spending time with Lily and not in a great place.
It made sticking around hard. It made knowing what to do hard. Kat really didn't want to force the four to pick one way or the other. This was a big moment and scary them into submission or trying to throw them into the unknown with just a pat on the back was wrong. It wasn't what they needed. Just… Kat didn't know what they DID need. Kat knew she'd been a bit scary. What she told them was scary… but that's because life was.
