As the son of an Overseer, he didn't need to experience or see things to learn they existed.
This information was already within his own being.
"Boy! Are you listening to me?! Run before the cathedral falls apart, or worse the entire Realm!"
He was startled by Michael's voice, as he quickly began running.
"R-Right!"

The cathedral was falling apart in front of Frank, things were looking bad!
The portal, however, was right in front of him.
